The memorial service once a year or once a week? Which is apostolic?
by greendawn inthere is little doubt that the early christians from apostolic times performed the bread and wine ceremony (eucharist) every sunday.
however russell made it a one time per year event.
isn't this move strange and suspicious?

The joys of field service

does this sound familiar to anyone???
when i was a jw, i thought there was nothing cooler than getting up at 7 a.m. on saturday, getting showered, putting on dress clothes, meeting at 8:30 a.m., answering a bunch of phony 'how are you this morning's', watching as people jockey for position in their favorite car groups so that they could be with their friends (because god forbid you get stuck in a car group with someone not in your clique), and miss looney tunes while listening to some lame attempt at a 30-second presentation by brother monotonous, then being sure to get out by 9:00 a.m. 'cuz if you were with brother rule-conscious you couldn't start your time until you knocked on that first door.

UGH! And I lived in Florida and the elder in our congregation was a straight Elder Gestapo (as I like to call them) and insisted that the sisters should not be wearing backless sandals, and sleeveless tops out in service.
I rememeber as a kid not be allowed to work with anyone who wasn't at least in their mid-20's even after I had got baptized.
"Its dangerous for tow young people to go to the door alone." Whatever!

never thought about it that way but its true. Everyone as bethel is an employee and by law should be treated like one.
Imagine the amout of money the society is raking in by such free labor. and nobody sees it

Conventions used to be outiside?????
ok what about:
-having to "remain standing" during the annoucements and account report: You handle the deficit Brooklyn!
-Being addressed only as "Brothers" and not "Brothers and Sisters" (How rude!)
-Trying to locate your friends amongst all "one-thousand two hundred and fifteen of us today!" Applause)
-Getting in trouble by your folks for getting back to your seat late
-Seeing the little 6 year old getting baptized who can't even spell Jehovah.
-Seeing the 60 year old getting baptized who forgot how to spell Jehovah
-Having your parents hit you on the arm when you fall asleep
-Having your parents hit there head on your arm when they fall asleep
-Having to applause after every little thing the speaker says:
"We have the truth brothers, do we not!?" Applause
"Satan's system will go down, are we sure of this brothers?!" Applause
"You're like some damn puppets, you pitiful spineless twits!" Applause

A New Trend for JW Baby Boomers?
by NYCkid ini'm sure this topic has come up before but i'm new here :-) since many of us are offspring of the baby boomer generation or of a generation earlier, i've noticed a trend.
my parents and their siblings who largely grew up as witnesses are now entering or have entered retirement age.
although my parents were generally hard working and responsible people, they have little retirement savings.

And what's up with the counsel on in case the Memorial has to be cancelled (due to inclement weather or whatnot) that we are able to celebrate it exactly one month later.
Where did they find that hogwash?
