One year, my brother-in-laws mentally retarded uncle attended the memorial with us. When it was passed down our row and it was passed to him, he started sticking the bread in this coat pockets! My brother in law was several seats and was yelling at him in a whisper voice to put it back (it's hard to reason with a grown 40 year old retarded man). He finally did, but not all of it, as we found out later! We called him "cracker boy" amongst ourselves after that (just a family joke) ... it was kinda funny to call a black man a "cracker boy"! LOL!

Funniest Thing You Ever Saw At The Memorial?
by Why Georgia in.
i'm wondering what the funniest thing you ever saw at the memorial was?.
for me it was when one of the mentally ill ladies in the congregation came to the kh with the back of her dress cut out because she said she was telling the demons to kiss her butt.. she walked right up to the front row, past everyone and sat down.. there were brothers running to block everyones view but it was quite clear that she was not even wearing undies.. this particular sister was always talking about the demons.

I agree with you to an extent. Big Oil is fighting any advancement of new technology that might threaten their bulging pocketbooks. However, a lot of this new technology costs a lot of money to implement. In the long run, it will well be worth it. But you have to consider the ramifications of pouring a lot of money into something new and then finding out that it is plagued with bugs or doesn't work at all. I just read about a new hydrogen powered car today and GM is unveiling. It seems to work like they want it to, but it said that if it were to retail today, it would cost as much as a warehouse full of corvettes.
We are heading in the right direction, but we still have a way to go. With that being said, maglev trains are a different story. They have been around for some time, and I do not think there is the need to such cautiousness as to if it will work or not. I think they only need to consider if consumers will use it enough to make a viable alternative to transportation. Personally, I think it would be big hit!
By the way ... here is that article ...

Maglev trains have been around for quite awhile now. From what I understand they are testing it in the US and considering building in certain area (like Pittsburg or DC?) It is very expensive to build so I understand the cautiousness. I just wish it would hurry up and get here! It is pollution free, smooth, and quite as a mouse!

Word of the Year
by Leolaia intonight i'm voting in the official "word of the year" election held at the annual american dialect society conference.
what words do you think should merit being considered the best word of 2004?
as defined by the ads, the word of the year is the word that "most colored the nation's lexicon, or otherwise dominated the national discourse.

The people in the background look like they are working very hard. Not a caption ... just a comment.
Although, I imagine the woman saying something like, "Lay back down honey, you're making me feel guilty."

Letter From President George W. Bush
by prophecor inok so maybe i'm being played but believe it or not, i just got a letter from the president, that's right, the president of the united states of america!!!
he was thanking many of his constituents for supporting him in his campaign.
and get this, unlike the the problems that are resulting from donald rumsfeld's not taking the time to sign the letters, notifying their loved ones of the soldiers deaths, this appears to be written out in his own personal handwriting.

The first ones shown on that website are fake. They say so in an update at the bottom of the page, but I think they should delete them all together. I do not understand why someone would take a tragedy such as this to dummy up fake photos.
The last is real, as far as I know, but is too gruesome to look at! :(

"Political" Catoons about the Tsunami Tragedy
by Wild_Thing ini do not know if there are any other fans of political cartoons like me, but there is a large collection of cartoons concerning the tsunami disaster.
most of them express the tragedy in a symbolic way or have a message to make you think.
only a few invite political debate, which you can just ignore if you want to.

Actually, calling it an "act of God" makes sense. If there is a god, then this and every other "natural" disaster is at his or her or it's doorstep. It is your position Schizoid, that is "not a very intelligent way of looking at it". You can give god/s a pass if you want, just don't imagine that it is "intelligent" for you to do so.
The problem I have with calling it an act of God is that it implies there is some omnipotent force behind it. If it was an act of God, then the next question would be: Why would God allow such a thing to happen. There is not a satisfactory answer for that no matter how hard you try. Unfortunately, that does not stop people from trying to find a reason, including the JWs who simply say "it is a sign of this end of this system of things". The answer seems to always fit their current religious philosophy.
Why not just allow it to be a tragic force of nature that happens because of the way the world works ... meaning techtonic plates and all that jazz? Not asking you really ... more a rhetorical question.
