The sharp increase in memorial partakers doesn't mean they there are more anointed, but it may indicate an increase in mental illness among the ranks.

i think that christianity's teachings pose a very unproductive world view and are a danger to our survival.
their teachings that man is sinful and worthy of death and in need of a savior to rescue him and free him of his sinful tendencies or else feel the wrath of god.
these things that condemn man as sinful are his own powerful drives given to him at conception which he now must deny due to indoctrination and consign to his shadow(jungian).
I don't think you can paint Christianity with such a large stroke. There are about as many different varieties of Christianity as there are fish in the sea, and while I don't agree with their beliefs, there are some brands of Christianity that do not promote self-loathing.
However, most religions fit what you describe and promote the idea that you must always strive to be better, and instill a sense that you are never good enough. The JWs are champ at it. It's a hard feeling to shake, especially when it is instilled from birth.

I look back on it now and marvel at how isolated I was. Since I didn't attend school and wasn't old enough to have a job, I didn't have ANY contact with outside people (except out if service ... if they would answer the door.). No wonder I was so brainwashed! I had nothing in my life to juxtapose against my JW life. Nothing that would cause me to question my reality. It all seemed so normal to me.

seconds later, the sea lion pulled her into the water.
I just saw this on ABC World News. They showed video taken before she sat down. They (adults and kids) had been teasing the seal with food. If a little girl sits down within reach after this happening, of course the seal is going to jump for her. It was just an animal doing its animal thing.
if you had to choose to belong to 1 religion, i was curious as to what any on the forum would pick.. i realize most here are likely atheist (i would have to say i'm agnostic), but if any would like to share their opinion, and maybe why?.
I was forced at gunpoint to choose a religion, I guess I would go with Buddhism. I find it mildly interesting, and the least harmful of all religions out there.

Nice to meet you! I was also "born-in", baptized at a very young age, and pioneered. I stopped attending meetings about 15 years ago, but I just officially disassociated last year. It has brought me great closure.
