There were so many big dynasty JW families related to each other, I am convinced there had to be inbreeding in the congregation I grew up in.

The 'IN' families
by punkofnice inone thing i don't miss about being a jobo, is those families that ruled the congregations.. i've seen how the elders protected their own using our old friend, nepotism.. eg.
the son of an elder that stole a car and was prosecuted but 'let off' because it was kept secret and all his relatives were elders in the same congregation.
it certainly went on when i was an elder but i wasn't one of the 'in' crowd.

What I appreciate about this day is the idea that we (Americans) are celebrating the DECLARATION of our independence from the tyranny of an oppressive dictator, not the attaining of it. That came later.
It's kind of like celebrating the day you sent in your disassociation letter or the day you decided to never return to the Kingdom Hall. Just because you decide to leave doesn't mean you know what freedom is.

Concerned Parent
by ConcernedParent ini'm writing for some advice from former jws.
my family is christian, and my 15yo daughter is "dating" a jw boy.
(the quotes are because they aren't old enough to actually go out on dates... they consider themselves bf/gf and have hung out and gone places with each other, but always with parents, family, etc.

Whatever you decide to do, you sound like a great mom! :)
Does your family (or the boy's family) have a history of people getting married at a very young age? I ask because this is common in some/many JW families. It was common in mine. If both kids seem like normal kids, then I wouldn't worry about it and let it fizzle out on its own.
If there is a history of marrying young, then I would go to the lumber store and start boarding up the doors now. And if they do ever become sexually active, he may put pressure on her to marry young. The fact that he is not baptized is a good thing, so he may not. Most JW kids get baptized between the ages of 14-18. I would wait and watch this kid. My bets are that he wants all out of the JW religion, but if they talk him into getting baptized, that changes things ... a lot! It's not like they are ever given a choice to stay or not, but if you're baptized, it's so much harder to leave.
Hells bells, woman! You have a tough decision! Good luck!

Female JW parking "attendants"
by neat blue dog ini was shocked recently to see on social media a couple pictures of jw sisters at a convention working as parking "attendants".
i put that title in quotation marks because they still don't get the official attendant badge like the male parking attendants do, only the reflective vest.
has anybody else heard of this .

One of my friends attended a concert out of town recently, and she was picking up her tickets just as a JW convention was letting out. She said there were JWs crawling everywhere! She said there was an old man with a badge that was posted on a corner of the street. She asked him if he knew where the Will Call office was. He said, "I don't know where anything is! They told me to stand here so I just stand here!"

Wow! Your daughter's boyfriend must be from a really liberal JW family! Normally, that would never, ever, in a million years be allowed. Have they celebrated any holidays together? Valentine's Day?
Either that kid comes from a real liberal family or he's living a double life and is desperate to get out.
I wouldn't assume you need to become overly concerned yet. Do you know how he feels about being a JW? Is he baptized? Does he want to remain one when he becomes an adult? If he wants out, you could be his saving grace of giving him a way to experience normal things in life ... like having a "girlfriend" when you're 15.

Wow! And the lowly JW women everywhere rejoice. "Oh, thank you, Jehovah, for allowing me to do something more than just clean the bathrooms!"
Herd must have decided women's brains were large enough to handle this important "privilege"!

Fred Franz Former Training in Ancient Greek
by Wild_Thing inhas anyone been able to verify that fred franz received the minimal training in ancient greek that he claimed gave him the expertise to translate the bible?
you would think that would be fairly easy to verify or disprove in this day and age.
what college did he attend?

After calling a few departments that said they couldn't help me, I called the University registrar's office and asked about accessing student records from over 100 years ago. She said I had to put my request in writing to an email address and they will get back to me about whether I am allowed access or not.
And the wait begins ....
As much research as others have already done, I can't believe there isn't a PDF of all of his transcripts online already.

He wasn't as smart as he thought he was.
No doubt!
I found this claim elsewhere on the internet. Again, with no evidence. I would like to have this verified:
He went to the University of Cincinnati from Fall, 1911 through the Winter, 1913, completed 36 classes with 23 A's, 8 B's and 5 C's. He only took one class in Ancient Greek and a few other classes in Classical Greek.

Yeah ... I was hoping someone else had done the work already. I guess I need to roll up my sleeves and get busy!

The Wikipedia article quotes from two secondary or tertiary sources. I'm looking for verified primary resources that he actually attended and what classes he took.
