  the governing body and watchtower publications make clear there is only one official website that jws should go to about their religion.

  they do not approve of independent pro-jw forums.

  this would also fall in line of there being no independent study groups, on the internet, or elsewhere.. for that matter, they do not approve of jws posting on behalf of their religion on social media, “apostate” websites, or anywhere else on the internet.

  It might also be helpful to remember that this forum we are posting on right now was originally for active Jehovah's Witnesses. Rereading the first thread by Simon is kind of fun! Haha! He invited people to register so they could get to know their "brothers and sisters". Users posted their uncomfortableness posting (but posted anyway) because some users might be "imposters".

  All ex-jws have to start somewhere. JWTalk's future will be either one of becoming another ex-jw forum or a jumping off place for future ex-jws who want to explore taking the red pill, but are just not quite ready.

  I am thankful for groups like JW Talk. Yes, they sound brainwashed and crazy, but its the first step to disobeying the organization. Not all of them will eventually become ex-JWs, but I believe a lot of them could. If they are willing to visit and participate in JWTalk, then they are just short cry from coming to this forum.

  How Apostates saved one town from Armagedon

  an interesting read today about a town once in the control of a religious cult who kept predicting the end of the world, and had a major child abuse problem.

  Fred Franz Former Training in Ancient Greek

  has anyone been able to verify that fred franz received the minimal training in ancient greek that he claimed gave him the expertise to translate the bible?

  you would think that would be fairly easy to verify or disprove in this day and age.

  what college did he attend?

  Did Your Taste In Music Change After You Woke Up?

  after i awoken from the cult, i went through the normal process of not knowing who i was and what my tastes where.

  looking back this was a wonderful time in my life because i experimented and tried different things and now i like or dislike things because i personally like/dislike them - not because i've been told they're good or bad.. black pudding is an example - it's made of blood and is a popular addition here in britain to fried breakfasts.

  i tried it for the first time last year and i can confirm that it is indeed revolting.

  Not really. I loved all kinds of music when I was a witness, from classical to the hard rock bands, like Guns 'n' Roses that I wasn't supposed to listen to. The only thing that changed is I didn't feel guilty about it anymore and I didn't feel the need to hide it. Today, I lay my Motley Crue right next to my Mozart without even batting an eyelash.

  The only genre of music that I absolutely cannot tolerate to listen to is Christian Rock. It makes my ears bleed.

  I guess I've never understood the Fred Franz threads.

  Is the intent to show that he lacked the formal credentials of a Bible translator or is the intent to show that he didn't understand the source languages at all?

  some of my family i would take out bill boards pointing to them.

  many of the elders it would be he is over there and set off a neon sign.

  with much amusement i read the thread on women parking lot attendants and it got me to thinking about life at home for the average jw.. i believe i am correct in thinking that anything to do with jw-ism requires a penis, except all the leg work (fs & pioneers).

  meaning the mic's, talks, etc... but yet the same guy who thinks his wife (or any other woman) is not bright enough to run the sound system for example doesn't mind his wife hauling hay, digging in the yard, managing the checkbook and other various physical jobs as well as jobs that do in fact require a brain larger than that of a gnat?.

  let's say a guy is a bit technologically challenged but he can manage the sound system at the kh ok. i imagine he feels proud that he is getting to do this great privilege?

  Anyone pissed at their parents for raising you in the cult?

  my mother was not the most emotionally stable person.

  she was a follower and instilled in me the idea we were better than those worldly people.

  its hard to go to school as a child and you can not be friends outside of school, you can not celebrate any holidays, and you are told all these people are going to die.

  At times, yes, but most of the time, no. First, blame lies squarely on my grandmother's shoulders. She was the one that converted back in the 50s and got this whole generational mess started. She was poor, uneducated, and a very suppressed female, so I view her as a victim, too. I view my still-in-mother a victim, too, for the same reasons.

  At some point you have to stop being a victim, but you have to have self-realization that you are a victim, first. And therein, lies the conundrum. You had that self realization. Your parents have not. It is painful to watch them continue to be a victim, and it is hard not to be resentful at their continued stupidity.
