It's not my own thought, but it hit me as I read it:
Instead of thinking of the birthday of Pharaoh as a 'bad' thing because he killed a man...it might be possible it's the other way around.
Those two men in jail (well, three, but Joseph was innocent) were guilty of something, broke a law against Pharaoh.
Instead of killing them BOTH, which might have been normal , he killed only one of them. The other man was free again. It was kind of a gift, maybe because Pharaoh was happy because it was his birthday??!!
In that case, this birthday history is not a 'bad' example anymore.
