Lacking some of the pieces in the puzzle
by oppostate ini had a chance last weekend to talk with an elder i used to serve with.
a very kind hearted and understanding elder, always showing sympathy and concern for others, looking out for the little guy, the downtrodden and oppressed, even willing to stand up to uncaring company-men co's .
he was po way back then and became the cobe in the new re-0rg, until, that is, the gb came out with the age limit.

This is the same phrase one of the inactive bros. in whom I confide about the org's corruption uses! I can't see how they can know one another since this friend has cut off all contacts except relatives, all female. -

If JWs are a religion why haven't they got a word?
by slimboyfat inwhat is the word for jw religion?
is there any other religion that doesn't have a word?
catholics => catholicism.

Some religions have more than one word to describe themselves:
Seventh-day Adventists, Disciples of Christ, Plymouth Brethren, Latter-day Saints, Salvation Army, Greek Orthodox, Syrian Orthodox, etc. So too Jehovah's Witnesses. The description need not be a single word.

Yeah, I laugh every time another article comes out about a JW being a pedophile and the 'official' response is always the same lying rhetoric. It reminds me of asking a kid if they ate the last piece of cake and they say "no" when they have chocolate icing all over their face.
Made me lol due to it's being so spot on (though admittedly this is not really a laughing matter).

How would you feel if this happened to you?
by Island Man inimagine you're a mentally out, physically in, awake jw who still attend meetings and occasionally do a little door-to-door perfunctory service just to please the still-in spouse and keep the elders off your back while you slowly and subtly try to free your spouse of the cult.
you're also a vociferous online critic of the jw organization and its harmful policies and false teachings.
one day while out doing your occasional perfunctory door-to-door service with a still-in jw, you knock on a door and the householder comes out and says:.

Scenario number one: That would be "surreal" indeed! I'd probably have a good laugh, wink at the householder, and go on to the next door. You know, "wait on Jehovah"!
Scenario number two: This one would be harder. I know a bro. from one of my old congos who has been DFed for taking a blood transfusion. I've wondered what I would do if I ran into him. I think I'd probably talk with him, perhaps in some out of the way place in order to protect us both, in case he would ever want to try and get back in. I understand his wife left him over his disagreeing with the org, so he may still want to try and save his marriage by going back. I'd not like to be DFed myself since that would put that shunning stress on those I still associate with. But I'd probably talk about the issue with him.
This is a good post!

Who is the oldest GB member?
by StarTrekAngel induring the talk delivered by stephen lett in our last assembly, he talked about brothers who serve despite their frail health.
he said "one of the gb members, whom i work with every day, is 80 years old and has been a diabetic for the last 30".. give a peak into how well they are tended to and how someone that age would not dare to let go of the power that keeps him alive..

Does it strike anyone as inconsistent that traveling overseers have to step down from their positions when they're 70, yet the GB members don't have to? That elderly unhealthy ones at the Bethels are being sent back to the congos, evidently to save money on health expenses, but it's okay to pay the bills for the old GB members and their "helpers" who are over 70?
Isn't here something in the Bible about leading by example, not being hypocritical, and treating others like you would want them to treat you?

Court denies summary judgement for Laurel Jehovah's Witnesses congregation
by OrphanCrow incourt denies summary judgement for laurel jehovah's witnesses congregation.
a motion for summary judgement is denied in a case against the laurel congregation of jehovah's witnesses and some individuals over child abuse reporting issues.a lawyer for the congregation maintained that elders were exempted from reporting requirements under a state law because of clergy privilege and confidentiality.the case resulted from allegations that elders did not report an unlawful sexual relationship between a woman and a 14-year-old boy, both of whom were members of the jehovah's witnesses congregation.. download the court opinion here.

John Denham Parsons
by opusdei1972 in"the non-christian cross" by john denham parsons, is a work that is still used by the watchtower society as a "proof" that the greek word stauros does not mean cross.
here a portion of this work:.
now the greek word which in latin versions of the new testament is translated as crux, and in english versions is rendered as cross, i.e., the word stauros, seems to have, at the beginning of our era, no more meant a cross than the english word stick means a crutch.

Fred Franz and those who have followed him have long gobbled up eccentric views held by pseudo-scholars like Parsons, W. E. Vine, E. Bullinger, and others who have never delved into the matter of the Greek meaning of stauros. If you're interested in pursuing the issue look at Leolaia's posts at this forum on the subject. They are likely the best ever written anywhere on it.

Did you go to your ASSIGNED congregation?
by Zoos inthe rule was (is) that you go to your assigned congregation.. growing up, i think our family was in our assigned congregation only one of three times.
the family made two major moves when i was a kid and each time my folks would visit the various congregations in the area and pick the one with the most kids.
given our association restrictions with the world, they wanted to make sure we had plenty of friends.. i have to give them credit where due.

OK, I can't pass this one up. Is this for real?
ttdtt stated that among the lack of freedoms JWs "enjoy" is this one:
if you can get a boob job or not
Does anyone know of such a thing really happening???
