Did Freddy Franz receive secret instructions from a Jewish aquaintance?
by truthseeker ini recently met a sister who told me she heard of a story that the late president of the watchtower society, mr. freddy franz, received secret instructions on how to direct the organization from a jewish acquaintance.. is this a conspiracy theory or could there be some truth to it?.

Barb Anderson wrote once of a Jewish Witness who knew Hebrew, and the bros. in the Writing Department respected him. He even chastised them for one of their gaffs in a WT article that came out after Freddie died. You might want to ask her about this Jewish Witness. I remember too that she said he was inactive! -

Circuit Overseer Coming For Lunch – Everything Has to be Perfect
by SAHS inwe have the circuit overseer’s visit this week, and my folks are having him and his wife over for lunch today.
of course, i’m making it a point of hightailing it out of there to have my lunch elsewhere.
when my mom asks me “why don’t you stay and meet him,” i just say, “well, he’s just a man like everybody else.” she says, “well, of course.

Would your mom's name be "Martha" perhaps?

How Corrupt Is WT?
by thedepressedsoul inhow corrupt do you think they are?
if so, in what ways?
i've been compiling my own list and thoughts.

They learn to think that the preservation of the organization is way more important than anything else, things like kindness and full disclosure of information. This thinking allows them to manipulate, coerce, and even directly lie.
Thank you, OTWO.

To those who attended, attendance up or down at your memorial?
by Crazyguy ininteresting to see if there's a noticeable trend in memorial attendance.
also did they talk more then usual about ones not to partake?
-
careful
Didn't attend but I can't help but wonder whether if there might be another reason they'd rent a big hall and have several congos attend. If they use the local KH, it's free, right? But if they use a worldly facility, they have to pay. So could this be another way to make money by soliciting funds? You know, "Brothers, we have to pay for this facility. I costs $5000 to rent. Put your contributions in the box as you leave."
I wouldn't be surprised if this idea came from HQ as a new way to make some more $$. They're ALWAYS doing that now...

Best of Topics
by Simon insome people had a penchant for posting their topics directly into the "best of topics" area.
it seemed more than a little arrogant to me that some imagined their every utterance was immediately a greatest hit but maybe people weren't clear on what that area was intended for .... from now on you won't be able to start new topics there.
if anyone wants to submit a topic to be added there (perhaps an index to a curated list of other topics by a user or on a certain subject / theme) then just start one in "suggestions" and pm me and, if it is suitable, then i'll move it into there.. existing topics posted there recently have been moved to more appropriate areas..

I nominate some of the old, meaty posts of Leolia, slimboyfat, and narcissus. I'm sure others can come up with some of the older great posters from the past too. Many of those really are the best on this forum. -

Lacking some of the pieces in the puzzle
by oppostate ini had a chance last weekend to talk with an elder i used to serve with.
a very kind hearted and understanding elder, always showing sympathy and concern for others, looking out for the little guy, the downtrodden and oppressed, even willing to stand up to uncaring company-men co's .
he was po way back then and became the cobe in the new re-0rg, until, that is, the gb came out with the age limit.

This is the same phrase one of the inactive bros. in whom I confide about the org's corruption uses! I can't see how they can know one another since this friend has cut off all contacts except relatives, all female. -

If JWs are a religion why haven't they got a word?
by slimboyfat inwhat is the word for jw religion?
is there any other religion that doesn't have a word?
catholics => catholicism.
-

Some religions have more than one word to describe themselves:
Seventh-day Adventists, Disciples of Christ, Plymouth Brethren, Latter-day Saints, Salvation Army, Greek Orthodox, Syrian Orthodox, etc. So too Jehovah's Witnesses. The description need not be a single word.

Yeah, I laugh every time another article comes out about a JW being a pedophile and the 'official' response is always the same lying rhetoric. It reminds me of asking a kid if they ate the last piece of cake and they say "no" when they have chocolate icing all over their face.
Made me lol due to it's being so spot on (though admittedly this is not really a laughing matter).

How would you feel if this happened to you?
by Island Man inimagine you're a mentally out, physically in, awake jw who still attend meetings and occasionally do a little door-to-door perfunctory service just to please the still-in spouse and keep the elders off your back while you slowly and subtly try to free your spouse of the cult.
you're also a vociferous online critic of the jw organization and its harmful policies and false teachings.
one day while out doing your occasional perfunctory door-to-door service with a still-in jw, you knock on a door and the householder comes out and says:.

Scenario number one: That would be "surreal" indeed! I'd probably have a good laugh, wink at the householder, and go on to the next door. You know, "wait on Jehovah"!
Scenario number two: This one would be harder. I know a bro. from one of my old congos who has been DFed for taking a blood transfusion. I've wondered what I would do if I ran into him. I think I'd probably talk with him, perhaps in some out of the way place in order to protect us both, in case he would ever want to try and get back in. I understand his wife left him over his disagreeing with the org, so he may still want to try and save his marriage by going back. I'd not like to be DFed myself since that would put that shunning stress on those I still associate with. But I'd probably talk about the issue with him.
This is a good post!
