Does anyone know—since one has to pay to see the entire London Times article—why they published this story yesterday when it is old news that dates to July?

today's london times reports on the july ruling of the eu court that forces the organisation country to comply with data protection.. the action originated in finland but the ruling will affect every eu country.
the cult tried unsuccessfully to argue that the notes taken by jws in the door-to-door work were personal and not accessed by the congregation.
the court ruled that they are acting under the auspices of the congregation and therefore they must comply with data-protection laws.. keeping lists of do-not-calls also falls under this ruling.. why does the cult always feel that it is above the law?.

we all know how much the watchtower abhors "higher education" and that apparently jehovah thinks it is a big waste of time.
at least that is their official stance.
it might come as a shock to you that this month they have started a campaign drive to actually recruit jws who have higher education, specifically those who have legal training.. with all the law suits against them for creating an environment that is friendly to paedophiles, it is thus no wonder that they are in need of solicitors, especially those who are sympathetic towards the cult.. talk about hypocrisy!.
Key requirement:
"They must be able to work as a team, follow direction..."
No thinking for themselves and questioning the policies that got the org into hot water on the child abuse issue to begin with.
Vidiot, I don't think they use "worldly" lawyers much.

— two women who say they were sexually abused as children have alleged that the jehovah's witnesses failed to report their abuser to authorities in montana and instead punished him internally by expelling him from the congregation until he repented the following year.. a trial begins monday in the tiny city of thompson falls for one of dozens of lawsuits filed nationwide in the last decade over claims of child sexual abuse in jehovah's witness congregations.
For Lost in the fog, here's the ref. in RF's CofC. As I said, it is in passing and without naming the group. See note 13. This screen shot is from p. 281 of the 4th ed. of his book.

Lost in the fog,
The head of the legal dept. at Patterson, Philip Brumley, was sent to law school by the org. Yep, they paid his way and it was his official assignment. He talks about how "dangerous" it was for him while he was there in an official JWdotorg video. Plenty of other WT lawyers converted after they'd passed the bar. In the USA it's a large enough group that they used to have their own independent conventions where, among other things, sisters could get up and give real stand-alone talks. That group, called Theocratic Attorneys and Doctors (TA&D), was shut down by GB I.
RF mentions the group in passing in his CofC book. Hal Flemings used to be the one who organized their annual conventions. They even had their own journal and meeting programs. If you go to the website of this Witness lawyer, Steve Popko, you'll see in the lower right under "Awards & Rankings" that he was once the editor of the TA&D journal.

Hope this helps.

Tahoe, thanks for the post, and Corney, for the earlier history.
One interesting thing here is "Jehovah's Witness attorney Kathleen DeSoto." So the GB has okayed the use of a female Witness attorney here. I've heard of Carolyn Wah doing stuff for them in their Legal Department, but this use of DeSoto, a woman officially representing them in court, seems pretty rare. I cannot help but wonder the motives here. Is it just that there are not many Witness lawyers who are licensed and practice in Montana so they are "stuck" with her? Or maybe the GB think that by using a female lawyer, this will help their case?
It's also of interest that the opposition counsel Storey has noted the change in procedure by the GB/org. The org likes to hide this fact because their old policies make them look bad.
let the speculation begin!.

Maybe eye...dub is right about leaks, but surely SOMEONE here must be able to get some info from still-in family members and share it.
