Do you think that the 'puter geeks at org HQ have put together some sort of computer program that automatically "searches" for "Jehovah's Witnesses" and its cognates all the time, perhaps from roving IP addresses, so that the "competition" like this site and other anti-JW ones are driven off the first page on a G search because such hits appear in the order of popular searches? In other words, their goal is to have only JWdotORG addys come up on page one of the G search results. I wouldn't put it past them...

Wealth, Poverty, and Morality
by SecondRateMind ini am interested in the approach this forum takes to money.
apart from sex, (which i am quite relaxed about) it seems to me that wealth is the surest divider between those who are moral, and those who are not.. it seems jesus thought so, also.
luke 16:19-31 kjv describes well enough his dusty attitude to the rich who do not succour the poor.. and this world has many poor: so many, it might seem that we can do nothing about it, and twist his words; 'the poor ye shall have always with you, but me, ye shall not have always.

Let us take all the world's wealth, and divide it equitably amongst all the world's people… And let us do this voluntarily, because we think it good and right and just.
Two thoughts:
1. Your post could not help but bring to mind the observation of Notre Dame scholar David Bentley Hart whose recent translation of the New Testament (NT) has caused quite a stir in many circles. Both in its introduction and in an article he published about doing the translation, he spoke about the earliest Christians who would have been by modern standards "fairly obnoxious: civically reprobate, ideologically unsound, economically destructive, politically irresponsible, socially discreditable." He especially dotes on the NT condemnation of "the idolatry of riches, wealth misused, wealth immorally gained" ( Intro. p. xxv). Maybe he feels a tad bit guilty about making so much money from his scholarship and his academic success (a rare phenomenon)? It seems to me that, given the gap he puts between himself as a modern and the earliest Christians, he would not go along with your proposal, even though he recognizes the condemnation of wealth in the NT.
2. Beside Hart, how do you propose bringing Trump, Putin, and all their ilk on board?
How do you feel about reality?

What are the "inner rooms" of Isaiah 26:20? The answer may surprise you !!!

one of the questions that seem to trouble the governing body of the jehovah's witnesses in recent year is this: what will jehovah's witnesses be doing during the destruction of babylon the great?

It's the rNWT in its study version. Last I heard (maybe 2 years ago?) they were still working on the gospels and it was only available online. It will likely not be printed. As somebody pointed out on another thread here, they can't even afford to give the Spanish-speaking Witnesses the regular rNWT, so they could not afford to print an English edition of the rNWT Study Bible.

Maybe she's got a letter from her doctor saying it's OK? You know, like some brothers get such notes for permission to grow a beard. Or maybe she once sang with Prince and got permission that way? Maybe her BOE are all color blind? Maybe I should go and have another drink of Spatlese...

Maybe it took them some time to go back and edit out certain embarrassing things? They ARE into rewriting history, even if, like sparky notes, they have left some blunders in.

The best overall introduction to the issue yet. Thanks for the post. It's difficult to choose the best line, but this one will do:
"the religion's leaders do everything in their power to avoid having to offer a full and public accounting of the depth of the problems that are festering below the surface. Hints of their scope only emerge in court battles and secret files that are leaked online."
There's nothing like getting to the heart of the matter.

Do any of the JWs go out door to door with a territory any more?
by Spiral ini actually had a neighbor ask me that the other day (she knows i'm an "ex" jw) and i didn't really know the answer.
i know there's a bit of cart witnessing going on (small town) and a lot of driving around to return visits.. but are they actually doing territory, not-at-homes, all of that?
the neighbor said that eight years ago, when she bought her house, the jws were by "all the time".

I recently moved to a secure building, so they do not come by, but before that I lived outside a small town and we were visited D2D 2-3 times a year. The last time was a middle-aged sister alone (so I figure a pioneer) who gave me a tract, invited me to the KH, did not have a Bible out, and held a tablet in her hand the whole time. Clearly she was not trying to get into a conversation.

My impressions of the cart witnessing
by Sour Grapes ini have watched tons of youtube videos of our exjdub friends approaching and talking to the jdub manikins at their carts as they give a great witness to the world by sipping their hot lattes, updating their social media, chit chatting to each other, and the most important thing of getting their time in, counting their hours.. when the jw's see someone approach with a camera they do several things, they will turn their backs on the person, or look at the person with a frown and act like the person isn't even there.
the witlesses refuse to answer simple, clear, and precise questions.
when i was an elder i loved to get into discussions and debates with trinitarians, priest, clergymen and those who were born again.

Someone posted a pic on this forum of a group "witnessing" at one of those carts, and it had them all deeply engrossed on their cellphones, paying no attention to anything or anyone else. I tried to find it by a search but came up empty. It was one of those pictures that says a thousand words. Anybody know the key words to find it on the search engine?
