  Did you get " Counseled " about the Music you Listened to While you were a JW ?

  from the time i was a small boy - i loved rock n' roll music.

  beatles, rolling stones, led zeppelin, hendrix.

  i started getting slighted for the music i listened to as i lay in my bedroom listening on headphones to led zeppelin's song " black dog " at age 14 with my elder dad looking suspiciously at me as i'm rocking out .

  Anyone else used to hear that RUSH stood for Rules Under Satan's Hand? I swear, one can make an acronym out of anything.

  My mom was giving me crap one time for buying a Joe Satriani tape because his last name had the letters S, A, T, A, and N.

  I also remember a couple pages that that was going around whenever anyone wanted to be critical of music. I wish I could remember more but it listed whoever was gay, had ever done drugs or got drunk or like The Police, used a word like "Mephistopheles" in Wrapped Around Your Finger. I wish I had a copy of that now.

  Word got to the elders that 3 of my friends and I were going to one of those "rock concerts". We were all hauled into the back room and told how we were supposed to be role models for all the younger ones (we were all 20 or so at the time) and also worried we were going to try the pot at such a worldly place.

  One of us backed out but me and two others went. Epic show of Deep Purple with the classic Blackmore, Gillan, Lord, Paice and Glover line-up.

  We went to a bunch of other shows over the year. Never was a word mentioned to anyone so no need for further counselling.

  whats your take? When someone asks my wife what religion she is, she seems embarrassed to say she is a JW.

  so thinking back about the times when someone has asked my wife what religion she is.

  she sheepishly and seems almost embarrassed to say she is a jehovah witness.

  when someone asks me, i just say i am a christian.

  have you heard that old chestnut?

  i have.. typically it's the last resort when you have dismantled a jws beliefs and they have no way of defending them.

  they know they are beat so they come out with that one.. its effectively an admission that you are right and they have no argument but they are still going to attend meetings because they like the social club.. what a lame way to defend your faith..

  I don't know what it's like now, but I remember constantly hearing from the stage and reading that: "The "World" hates you! They know you have "The Truth" and they do not and they hate you for it!" "Every time you knock on their door and they don't listen it's like you're pouring salt on an open wound because they know they should be following the one true god, Jehovah, and they hate you for it!" "Blah, blah, blah and more crap!"

  No wonder one doesn't want to proclaim from the hilltops their mighty love for Jehovah.

  To me the name Jehovah just sounds stupid as well.

  Flipper- I can listen to the Reality album for days. Ever hear on the extended album the updated Rebel Rebel? I can't remember if it's only on the extended or not but Queen Of All The Tarts is also a sweet one.

  I have had Blackstar (the album) on repeat since Friday. What a masterpiece.

  I love the meme I saw that basically said: The earth in 4.5 billions years old. Be glad that you can say lived at the same time as Bowie.

  witnesses hate college education, and why would you need one when you have our "spiritual food" the watchtower answering science questions.. watchtower 1973 july 15 p.7 questions from readers.. "when did dinosaurs go extinct?

  -they may have disappeared during the flood of noahs day.

  I wonder if seeing the movie Jurassic park woke anyone up. They might of happened to watch that, did some research and found the idea that the universe is 49,000 years old or so to be ludicrous.

  Not to derail the topic, but has anyone seen if or how they explain new stars being formed now? Those darn scientists throwing a wrench in the works and showing how god isn't done with the "creative days".

  Like Londo, I felt relief.

  I had already left and hadn't been to a meeting for many years before I stumbled upon this site and eventually read COC. Eventually the relief turned to being pissed off since over the years I've seen how being raised in the cult has affected me. But oh well, at least I'm out now and not wasting my time with meetings and field service.
