I think they will quieltly continue to sell off the assets and squirel the money away while making the dubs think the money is being used to continue the preaching work. By the time the dubs figure it out, it will be too late.... Whoever is truly in control will let it die, and the money will be no where to be found...untraceable. They have to do this slowly...so as not to alert the rank and file.

i was wondering how many famous actors, musicians, and other public figures either are jw's or became jw's at some point in their life.
eveyone knows about [b] prince{b], and [b]michael jackson[/b], but i've also heard that they snagged up [b]george benson[b], a former indian prime minister and rapper [b]dres[/b] of the group the black sheep.
obviously this will be a short list since the society doesn't do much to encourge any kind of success, especially not the kind that will leave you with millions of adoring fans.

in the waterbury conneticut area there was a circut overseer named caramelous (greek name not sure of spelling).
this brother more than 30 years back was having all the congregation servants removed because they where over weight.
i guess they used not moderate in habits (eating too much) as a scriptural reason.
I remember Caramalous. He was our co when I started College. That was back in 1969, and he demanded that my Dad step down as an elder because I was in College. My Dad refused, and challenged him to show him from the Bible that education was not allowed. Since he couldn't, my Dad told him that he could show from the Bible that Jesus was 30 years old before he began his full time ministry, and up until that time, he was learning a trade...getting an education. He said that since the son of God was getting an education until the age of 30, that he felt that it was more than reasonable for me to continue my education for a few years beyond high school. He further said that he knew a number of people that the society put through college in areas that would be of benefit to the society. My Dad said he would be happy to discuss the idea that education is ok for those the society chose, but unacceptable for everyone else.
My Dad remained in his position....Caramalous backed down. Bullies usually do when they meet their match. Smart man, my Dad.
I also remember Caramalous burping loudly from the platform...then asking "What color was that?" "Burple", he answered....

i haven't posted in ages... life has been really busy and happy... two of my pieces of art were chosen for the 2005 calendar for annabelle's collection.
my months are november and december... december being chosen for the cover.
i am really excited!
Billygoat...That's exciting! I think photography is a wonderful art! I had an art teacher once who said that real art is 90% observation (learning to see...take notice) and 10% creativity. I agree.

i hereby wholeheartedly and by my own free will request to have all records which indicate my current association with the jehovah's witnesses and it's legal entity, the watchtower bible and tract society, deleted at this time.. the extremelly long time i endured while in your company has been wonderful at times and not so much at others, just like any experience in this great life.. i've looked forward to this time for so long, in which i won't feel forced to attend all those repetitive and boring weekly meetings, add to that the exhausting and expensive assemblies, the memorial, all the time-wasting preaching activities, plus the 'expected' socializing among members.
it's all so enslaving to me!

I wanted to let everyone know why I was leaving before the elders had a chance to spin it their way. I wanted it to come from me, along with the reasons I chose to do it. Once they make the announcement, you don't have a chance to set the record straight. I doubt that most of the recipients of my letter read it, but I was contacted by a couple of people who said that I made them think. If I had it to do over, I would have made it much shorter. It felt cleansing to me at the time, though. In the end, I''m really not in contact with all but a couple of the people I sent the letter to.

I think there is a chain of Tim Horton coffee shops. A couple of them have opened locally here, but I haven't visited one yet. I think it's a Canadian company.

I like the approach. My DA letter was 9 typewritten pages plus a packet of photocopies. I doubt anyone (with a couple of exceptions) read it, but it really felt good to write it and deliver it. I sent copies of it to pretty much everyone I knew as a dub...mailed them out before I gave the letter to the local elders.
Yours is short and sweet and to the point. You sound happy about your decision, and that really comes across. That will surprise them, because you're supposed to be miserable, you know. Good job!

my advice to anyone that is thinking of leaving the "organization" is to make friends (real friends) with people other than jehovah's witnesses.
the sad truth is that jws are only conditional "friends".
they will drop you like a hot potato if they think you want to leave.
Great advice minimus... I had a great support system when I was leaving....including a support group locally. I also had my best friend (since the age of 6) who was already out, and whom I had refused to shun when she left because she was more like a sister than just a friend. She never tried to pull me out of the borg...but she was there for me when I was ready.
