i seem to have a bit of confusion concerning the purpose of this website and the people in it.
perhaps i am not computer savvy and do not understand some of the expressions used.
could someone comment and help clarify.. .
Welcome!

i brought this up to debator on another thread... and he/she ignored it... thought the subject deserved its own thread...for anyone who has never read the finished mystery.. .
the watchtower claims that jesus inspected the churches in 1919 and chose the watchtower to represent god on earth, based upon the spiritual food they were dispensing at that time.. .
note:.
Something went weird on this thread... looks like a third page, but it comes up as reply page..with no posts... so just testing to see if all is well...

Ok... Now it's a third page... maybe it's just a gtlitch in my computer
Oh but now the video Jeben /Titus posted is gone. I must have missed something.... I'll be quiet now

Wow, Jeben... I can't watch that whole thing ... I literally started toget sick. I don't even know where to start to respond to the nonsense on that video. I listened to the time slots you listed though... sounds like they believed they were already chosen by 1916, the year that Russell died. And seriously, why would God choose Russell, only to have him die as soon as he was chosen?
The other problem with that is that what they preached was nonsense in 1916... and one would have to believe that having been chosen by God they would publish truth. They didn't. The Finished Mystery was supposedly compiled from Russell's notes and was published in 1917...the book he supposedly planned to publish but died before he could do so.
And why was the symbol of the Sun God RA on the cover of the Finished Mystery? (as well as other books in the Studies in the Scriptures series) I may have missed it, but the video didn't address that.

note:.
There is some variation as to what date they claim to be "chosen". Usually it's 1918 or 1919. That's interesting, though, Jebem (and Welcome!) because that would mean that the Finished Mystery was published after they were chosen!

it changed.. i remember when the secretary of the congregation informed my father secretly about the times magazine article on raymond franz in 1982.. i remember the heated discussions in the family about the new dissfellowship rules +/- 1980. .
i remember the release of the revelation book in +/- 1987 (presented on a way the end was coming and very near!).
i remember the 1995 change of this generation doctrine.
Wobble,
I don't think that will work.... they'll just say that it is you who have not kept up with the teachings of the fds.

It just shows how powerful information control is. The wt is a master of it.

Designs,
I personally don't know any JWs who researched the history of the wt and stayed in. Researching their history disproves their claims...so why follow a fraud?
I used to have the majority of wt publications from the early 1900s. It was a great help in setting things straight in my own mind. I once entertained a thought of setting up a library and research facility...kind of a retreat for anyone who wanted to have access to this stuff. Time and lack of finances kind of nixed it... but I still think its a good idea... It's great to have online access to the info...but the actual publications...well that makes it undeniable.

note:.
The vast majority of jws do not know the real history of their religion, nor do they have access to the old publications. So the WT can claim anything they want to about their history, and get away with it.
