  ) they believe the heart failure was caused by a virus that damaged the heart muscle.

  Thanks everyone! It has been a nightmare, but we have much to be thankfull for.

  Good news... Ali got word last night that Disability will cover her through mid January retroactively. After her next dr's visit and evaluation,there will be more paperwork for the next 5 weeks.

  It is very stressfull. I was on the phone with the dr's office on and off for 3 days trying to make sure the paperwork was filed on time. Ali got so stressed with the whole thing that she asked me to take over. The cardiologist is great, but his administrative staff is just awful.

  Ali is home and undergoing further treatment for congestive heart failure. She has a bi-ventricular pacemaker and a defibrilator (sp?) They believe the heart failure was caused by a virus that damaged the heart muscle. The drs are hoping that the pacemaker and medication and excercise (eventually) will strengthen the heart muscle...but believe that it will never be fully normal. One side of her heart was only puting out at 15%. They are optimistic, but if it is not enough, she may require a heart transplant. She is actually thinking that would be the best option. Time will tell.
  
  Right now she is battling with the long term disability provider that she has through her company. That's a stressfull process all by itself! She goes back to the drs after the holidays. They have to test the defibrilator...by stopping her heart under controlled conditions and letting it kick in....literally. She is scared of that....so am I. The irony of all of this, is that she has been under a dr's care for years. She is a type 11 diabetic...(since having gestational diabetes with all 3 pregnancies). She goes religiously to the drs...and has had symptoms of heart failure... her dr diagnosed her with ashma (which she doesn't have) and gave her meds that could have hurt her heart further... he diagnosed her with panic attacks and gave her meds for that, when it was her heart all along. Needless to say, she is finding a new primary care physician. Her cardiologist is very good though... I am grateful for that.
  
  I am hoping to get her to move up here. Boston is a good place to be for medical issues. Once we know if she will be permanently disabled, or if she can return to work at some point, we can begin to plan. Patience is not my best characteristic. Having to wait for answers is torture! But I am hopeful, and she is ok for the time being.

  I am grateful this Christmas that she is alive. The cardiologist said that if she hadn't gone to the emergency room when she did, she could have died. Her organs would have shut down. She was that close. Sooooo scary....

  they'll be testing through the night...apparently, her heart is enlarged as well.

  she is scared... and if her jw father catches wind of it, he will be there trying to intefere with her treatment... he lives close by to her, so i'll be flying down in the morning....to head him off at the pass.

  This thread is not about scans and pat downs. It is about my very ill daughter... we almost lost her, and she is not out of the woods yet. These past two weeks we have been through hell and back.

  Freydo,

  I went through the scanner before the flight to Florida. It was not as bad as I thought it would be. I don't agree with it... but getting to my sick daughter over ruled any objections I had. There was no scanner or pat down on my return trip.

  I am home now...went back to work today. I have talked to Ali several times today... she is in good spirits...at least as good as can be expected.

  Ali came home sunday. She is settled in fairly well. She is a little stronger each day, but has a challenge ahead. We will see how far this treatment can take her... the doctor is optimistic. She still has more fluid to lose, but it is coming off steadily. She is exploring the possibility of a heart transpland if this therapy doesn't work for her. She is a fighter.

  Her heart is very enlarged, and on it's own is only pushing out at about 15%. The pacemaker will help, as well as medication and excercise over time to strenthen the heart muscle.

  I still can't understand why this was not caught earlier... could have avoided this. before it got this bad. She has been under a drs care for over 4 years, goes to the dr at least every 3 months, She is diabetic and goes whenever she gets a cold. She has had symptoms, and was told she has asthma.. she doesn't. She was treated for panic attacks... when it was her heart all along. That dr just kept giving her meds...didn't look for the cause... She couldn't sleep...he just gave her sleeping pills. She was so exhausted she became depressed...more pills. craziness.

  Anyway, I have to leave tomorrow... there is a support system in place... the best we can work out for the moment... She will get through this...

  I am weary and worried... but I have done all I can do at the moment...

  Ali may go home tomorrow. They want her to be a little more mobile, and have her vitals stable when she walks a little distance. She walked around 3/4 of the hospital floor today... the hospital is huge and very spread out.. (I swear I walk about 3 miles a day getting back and forth from parking etc. several times a day) That was a vast improvement over yesterday...and her vitals stayed within normal range.

  Ali made it through surgery number 2. This one went more easily. She is resting as comfortably as can be expected.
