leavingwt mentioned on another thread the age of his wife when she was baptized.
she was a child.
how can you expect a child to make such a decision?.

my last update on my daughter was so good...but it didn't turn out that way.
she was cleared to go back to work, but with limitations... she couldn't lift more than 10 pounds.
her employer wanted her back but wouldn't agree to the lifting restriction.
The surgery to reattach Ali's lead will happen on Friday. Her blood sugar is too high at the moment to do it today. The doctor is puting her on insulin short term, until it comes down enough. It is probably due to stress, and she did have bronchitis... and any infection in the body can cause blood sugar to skyrocket.
Good news though. Her EF is between 15 and 37 according to the results of two tests...so he feels it is somewhere in between, probably about 25... not the 8 that they told her on her last visit...which is why I've been beside myself this past week or so. And that is without the pm...it has been off for at least a week. I know it's not great, but it's a heck of a lot better than it was before. I am soooo relieved. The dr. thinks that she will improve quickly once the pm is going again. He told her that this means a transplant is not as urgent as they thought.
I've also been reading about stem cell use in heart patients. It looks extremely promising. It can restore damaged tissue in the heart...and since she is also a type 2 diabetic, it can also restore damaged pancreas tissue. They do it in Europe and there is also a center in Texas. They use her own stem cells, harvested from bone marrow in the hip. So once the surgery is done on Friday... I'm going to do an intensive investigation of that therapy. There appears to be no side effects.
I haven't been able to breathe...or sleep since this recent crisis started, but I think I will sleep well tonight. My boyfriend gave me a big glass of wine... and I've almost finished it. I am truly feeling a bit more hopefull now.
She sounded so much better, and positive, when I talked to her a little while ago.
Thankyou for all your prayers and thoughts...

Shelby,
I just reread your post. I will have Ali check with her dr.... but for much of the 4 years she has known about her diabetes, she has kept it under control by diet only... so I assume she is producing some insulin. Every time she gets sick though, she has issues.

Shelby, she is definitely type 2. It started with gestational diabetes with all 3 pregnancies. The last one was 7 1/2 years ago. Then 4 years ago she was diagnosed with type 2. She didn't have it growing up. Her primary care physician suggested insulin this morning...but Ali wants to hold off because an insulin dependent diabetic can't qualify for the transplant list. She's between a rock and a hard place. She is going to see an endocrinologist at her primary care physician's direction, but that may not be before the surgery on Tuesday...if that happens.
I talked with her a little while ago, and she doesn't want me to come down...wants me to use my time off when she has the transplant... which could be a while because as I said before, if she is insulin dependent, it disqualifies her for the transplant list. The cardiologist plans to do the surgery on an outpatient basis. He is head of cardiology at Florida Hospital, in Winter park.
I'm sitting tight for the moment... on pins and needles.
Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers.

Jamie, I don't know if she was on it... I'll check though.

Well, her improvement was not as good as the doctor had thought, in fact much worse. Not much improvement at all. They discovered this when doing the actual testing of the heart. She had developed bronchitis, and as a result of the coughing, one of the leads dislodged from it's place in the heart, and was actually causing damage. In addition to this, her blood sugar is very high...she is type 2 diabetic, and when there is an infection, it causes the blood sugar to go way up. The cardiologist cannot do the surgery until it comes down. The pacemaker has been disconnected, and her ef is very low. She is scheduled for surgery next Tuesday if they can get her blood sugar down. She isn't eating any carbs at all, but that doesn't seem to be helping.
She will be put on the transplant list once the diabetes is under control.
I can't wrap my brain around any of this. I am going to head to Florida...

when i was a kid back in the late 50's / early 60's (yes, i am very old, now let's move on) there was a television program that capitalised on the lives of miserable women.
it was my mom's favourie.
each day monday to friday there would be four women on the show, each with a sad story to tell.
I remember it. We didn't do birthdays because of the borg, but I remember as an 8 year old, making my mom "queen for a day". I made presents for her, and tried to make my mom feel special for the day. My grandma helped me with the things I couldn't do myself.
My mom loved it.
