Mr Kim,
Pretty sad, isn't it that fortune cookies are more accurate than the track record of "Jehovah's organization"?

i remember flicking through my ex girlfriends copy of the "proclaimers" book back last year, and there was a page with the pictures of the gb at the time (roundabout 1992 with henschel, jaracz et al).
apart from noticing that the gb was totally comprised of males (well, with the wt's almost neanderthalitic view of women, you wouldnt expect a female contingent within the gb would you?
), i noticed that they all seemed to be white, and, judging by some of the names, probably american.

a couple of weeks ago i started an irritable thread about the girl at work who gave out my home phone number -- from the firm's confidential internal phone list -- to an old friend i hadn't talked to in about 20 years.
i smelled a set-up and made a stink at work about it.
as far as i know, she was "talked to" and the subject was briefly mentioned at a staff meeting that i missed due to being out of town.. well, i thought about it for a few days and decided to give the old friend a call anyway.
Great, Nina!
The very best way to burst their bubble is to have a happy, successful life, and let it shine through. They can't seem to comprehend this, because the wt teaches that if you leave, you will have a miserable life.

a few of us use our real names as our handles, but most of us use something else, such as a nickname or a variation of our real name.
iiz2cool - it was not my nickname (i really don't think i'm all that cool), but that of an old friend named mike prezelj.
i won't go into how he got the name, but it happened when we were all very high, and you had to be there to understand.
Simple, I drink my coffee black and I usually have a cup while I post.

okay, it's not like everyone knows that the jw dating website has like a 10 page thread here, but this response that i just got is absolutley horrible.
i just can't believe that this "witness" wrote this to me!
i will quote her response to me........ i see you changed your profile from a few days.
I found my ex-husband listed. It's funny but really sad at the same time. He didn't use his name, but is unmistakable.
We've been divorced for well over a decade. You'd think he would have found a willing sister after all this time....used to be that there were so few single available brothers that they would be swamped.
Reading some of their profiles is scary...hilarious, but scary.

tonight the wife is out, and i had some time to think.. i was watching tv but got bored, because there is a fantastic thunderstorm going on right now.. i turned off everything, and started to think about things, ans why i've had a kind of empty feeling lately, as to my past.
i think about the little things, the history of my life.. somewhere, i lost my life to the jws, that early time that is supposed to be the most important in forming who we become.. i remember being a child, but can't remember when i felt like a child, i just seem to be missing something.
is it the birthdays, holidays, friends i was barred from having?
I had it easier than most jw kids. My parents were more moderate than most, so I got to go to art classes and to participate in some after school activities. They never beat me... in fact I had only one spanking in my life...administered by my father, who cried more than me. I also got to stay home from meetings if I had a lot of homework. My parents believed in education.
I do know what you're talking about though. I remember being in third grade, looking out of my classroom window at the awful thunder storm raging outside. I thought it was armageddon starting, and in near panic, wondered how I would get home to my mom, and how dad would get home from work. I didn't want to face armageddon alone.
I had good times as a kid. I had loving parents, with whom I had very strong bonds. I think what the organization takes away from kids, more then anything else is the ability to be ourselves...to recognize that we have value as individuals...talents.. abilities...strenths that make us unique. ..to learn to trust our own judgement...and make decisions for ourselves. Learned as a child, these things are second nature. Learned as an adult...well, I'm not sure you ever acquire those abilities fully.
I didn't fit in anywhere....in school, I could never be close enough to form friendships. At the hall, there were very few kids to begin with, and nearly all were awful... except one, and she's still my best friend today (she's out too)

i know that jehovah's witness say only two birthday celebrations are spoken of in the bible and that neither were held by persons who worshiped jehovah.
or were there any other celebrations that were simular to birthday celebrations?.
inquiring minds need to know.
Hi Bornagaingirl!
1 Cor 4:6
Sorry, I didn't see your question 'till just now.

i'm sure the question has been asked before, but i can't help but wonder to what extent the first "governing body" was any way like the governing body today?.
is it not ironic that the apostle paul, who was not a member of the "governing body" was used by god to write most of the new testament?.
of the "governing body," only james and peter wrote anything of instruction letters to christians, one book for james and two for peter.. why, in addressing christians on life and conduct, did god apparently bypass the "governing body"?
Ummmm...Warrior...
My loyalty is to God, not man.
I think you're putting us on. If you are for real, then what your organization produces is scarier than I ever imagined.

It's just as interesting to look at what is not said. The Isrealites had a law that covered everything. Very graphic, very detailed. They did not have a law that prohibited celebrating birthdays. There's a priciple here: "Where there is no law, there is no sin." The Bible also said NOT to "go beyond what is written."
Just because something bad happened at 2 recorded birthday parties, does not mean that birthday parties are wrong.

we all know that witnesses go door to door in order to give bible studies.
but since their message is so important to them, why don't they use all the available methods in order to reach out to the most people possible.
we live in an era of telecommunications, wireless phones, internet, and so on.
Oops... before someone says jws don't have to pay for the mags.... I know they don't pay a specific amount, but they are expected to donate for them, and turn in any donations they receive for the mags. Bottom line: the society gets their money.

They don't want to spend the money for tv or radio. My uncle was an announcer on their radio station way back. It was WBBR. It was a different era back then.
Today, the "preaching work" keeps the jws busy. It's a form of control. It keeps them feeling inadequate because they can never put in enough hours or produce enough results to measure up. No matter how ineffective it is, I think they will continue to demand this of their followers because it is a means to keep them in line, test their loyalty, and use up as much of their free time as possible. Makes the jws feel like they are part of something. It's a ready market for watchtowers and awakes. Not only do the individual jws have to have their personal copies, but they have to commit to a certain number of copies for placement, and they have to pay for them. Whether they are placed or not is irrelevant. The society gets their money.
Why pay for tv or radio? The purpose really isn't to save lives. It's to create revenue.
