  have i gone off the deep end with this one?

  a brief conversation tonight with my jw mother, who has been ill recently, triggered this.

  i called to see how she is and she warned me that she has sent me a note and hopes it won't hurt my feelings.

  Beautiful letter. One would have to be inhuman not to feel your pain. Very moving, and it exposes them for who they are. I think it's a fabulous idea to put it in a newspaper.

  this issue came up with my jw nephew(17).

  i jumped at the chance at using it to prove that the org is a fraud but then the focus changed slightly.

  i said, "do you know how many people's lives were disrupted by this event.

  My dad (an elder) always said that you should not serve God because of a date. He did not fall for the 1975 stuff as it was happening. He was considered by many jws to have a bad attitude about the whole 1975 date. Nearly everyone I knew at the time fell for it.... but obviously, my dad was right.

  You might ask your nephew how a jw would have been viewed pre-1975 if they voiced their doubts about the date.

  poor jwfacts got sprung when the jw trawlers were able to join the dots.. no, that's wrong - they knew it was him but it took something else for them to be able to prove it.. i am not game to post a bio about myself.

  my jw siblings are very litigious.

  one even sued another jw for libel.

  I was third generation jw...and amazingly they are all dead. I'm the last in that line...escaped, as did my kids. No real ties left with the borg. Still, I'm cautious. Aw, what the heck...a few on here know anyway.

  I lived through it too.... I remember a talk that summer at the District assembly where the speaker said that "this is no time to be toying with Jesus' words: 'no man knows the day or the hour'.

  My dentist (a jw) sold her practice and she along with her husband pioneered. They thought they had just enough to last until armageddon. Well he died and she was had to go back to work as a dentist in her late 70s because the money ran out. She died a few years ago.

  I think jws have selective amnesia....

  PMJ...no one has all the answers. Salvation does not depend on having all the right answers...it depends on a one on one relationship with God through Christ. It is the reason that the Bible says not to be followers of men. No human or organization can give you salvation.

  When you stand before your creator you will stand as an individual, not as a group. God will not give you a pop quiz.to see if you have all the right answers. It is not having the right answers that earn you salvation. God doesn't judge you by how much you know (or think you know).

  The scripture that the society uses (John 17:3) to say that knowledge is what gives you life is a perversion of that scripture. Look in your Interlinear translation and you will see that it actually says that "knowing" God & Christ is what brings salvation. Knowing someone and taking in knowledge about someone are two different things. "taking in knowledge" will not save you. Knowing God (a one on one relationship) will.

  PMJ...in all honesty, you are not doing a very good job in defending the society. You are actually doing the oposite.... you prove our point. You evade direct questions. You change the subject. You accuse us of being full of hate...when it's your posts that show hostility.

  If I was a jw on this board, your arguments would make me run from the organization because your posts expose it for what it is.

  The truth didn't change PMJ. If the apostles didn't understand it correctly, that didn't mean that the truth itself changed. They didn't go around expecting people to follow them. They pointed people to Jesus, not themselves. The biggest problem with the society is that they demand that people follow the organization and its' changing teachings. The organization cannot give salvation, nor can they take it away. They do not have that kind of power...they just want you to think they do. In doing so, they mask truth, and attempt to have control over your relationship with God.

  John 5:39 Jesus said "You keep searching the scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they that testify of Me, But you are not willing to me that you may have life. "

  No PMJ, I don't hate anyone.... but yours is a typical jw attempt to change the subject when you know you are wrong. You cannot read the apostles minds to determine their motives...nor can you read the minds or hearts of those on this forum. To claim otherwise is just silly.
