To a jw the purpose of a funeral is not to honor the person who died. They look at it as an opportunity to "give a witness" to non jws. If they don't get to do this, then why bother attending a funeral or even a wake? They don't believe she is conscious in an afterlife...so they do not see it as punishing her. They are punishing you.

Why did the JW's Shun my mother at her funeral?
by DaveNwisconsin inmy mom had died on december 9, 2005. she had been loyal to that religion for 35 years.
she had been in a nursing home for the last two years.
some of the old ladies would come and mom would still write a letter to a "not at home" once and awhile.

Would You Like Some Bible Based Literature?
by Apostanator inthat's what she asked me as i was putting my laundry in my car at the laudromat.
she was parked right next to me and she rolled down her window and had the awake and watchtower in her hands.
i said i use to be one of jehovahs witnesses but because of the pedophile problems as well as the societies involvement in the un, i left.

The GREATEST IRONY of Shunning and Disfellowshiping
by Trojan ini have lately started to think many things over.
as i adquire more knowledge, or other kind of knowledge, i see things more and more in another light.
it's a strange and thrilling experience i'm going through.

I think you're right...but the flip side of it is that if they got rid of the shunning policy, so many would leave that it would effect the bottom line. I think money is a huge part of it. If they keep people in, it assures a level of income that the society has become accustomed to.

This is kinda funny. My daughter called this morning. She had bought a toy ark for my granddaughter, Aubrey. Aubrey is 7. Anyway, they were naming all of occupants of the ark. Aubrey asked what Noah's wife's name was.. So my daughter read the account in Genesis, but could not find a name for her. So, for now, they call her Mrs Noah. I don't recall her name... and I know in ancient times women had no status...and I'm not surprised that her name isn't listed... Is there a record of her name...does anyone know?
Leave it to my granddaughter...

WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL ANY WAY
by PMJ inthe general feeling on this website is that all religions have gods people in them.so why does it matter to you all.that you believe you were lied too?you show me a religion that is with out fault?show me a religion that has the total truth from the bible?

dont pray to jehovah thourgh the wbts.i go through jesus.didnt you know?
Exactly. Jehovah isn't impressed with which organization you belong to. When you stand before Him you will stand as an individual, not as a group. He won't judge you on the basis of how much you know. He won't give you a pop quiz to see if you have all the answers. He won't check your meeting attendance. Your salvation depends on Jesus' sacrifice....not how many watchtowers you sold. It's not about ending a prayer "in Jesus name" . It is about having a one on one relationship with the only one who can give you salvation.

Because it is about a relationship....not a religion. The society inserts themselves in the chain of salvation and convinces jws that they must follow the organization to have salvation. They make themselves the middle man in one's relationship with God. That is what is bogus. Salvation is through Christ alone....not through any church. The difference between jws and other churches can be seen in this: I went to a baptist church in Florida after my exit from the borg. I will never forget the pastor's words. He said "If I ever tell you that I am necessary for your salvation, I want you to run...don't walk to the nearest door...because if I tell you that, I would be lying to you. I am not necessary...this church is not necessary for your salvation. Christ, and Christ alone is necessary for your salvation"
The organization shuns those who dare to challenge their authority. The organization profits by misleading people and controlling their lives. The society keeps their followers from persuing their dreams and developing their God given talents. It's a crying shame.

Upcoming expedition to the 'Holy' land.
by Franz inmyself and a number of other scholars i've met on the internet have decided to pool our money and expertise and undertake a fact-finding mission to the 'so called' holy land.
as i've stated previously, we strongly feel that phenomena discussed in the bible, especially ezekiels wheel were indeed interplanetary craft, driven by lord's from beyond our star system.
based on descriptions, we believe these may have been nuclear as a primary power source and we expect to find strong evidence in the desert of past nuclear activity.

Friends of mine are in the rock and mineral business... and they have specimines of coprolite which is fossilized dinosaur shit. You would never know that's what you're looking at. They never heard of trinitite though.
