JW's on trick or treat night
by carla inhow did your jw families appreciate people knocking on your doors on trick or treat night?
ever answer the door and tell them how pagan they were?
we had one jw house that used to be totally dark except for the porch light so we could read their sign- we are jw's and do not celebrate halloween.

I remember being extremely frightened on Halloween night, as early as 3 years old. My parents made it seem like the devil and his demons would actually be coming to our house. The lights were turned off and we hid in a back room. It felt like we were under attack.
Yep... that's the Halloween that I remember... the front windows were covered with blankets. All the lights in the house were turned out. I couldn't even watch TV (the glow would give us away). We just sat there in the dark bored out of our skulls and my un-believing dad just let this madness happen.
I remember one time they went ahead and knocked on our door. I wanted to peek out the window at them. My mother told me not to do it because it would scare me and I would have nightmares. I bet she never had nightmares when she got to celebrate Halloween. She should have known better...
I just thought of a great costume! We should all dress as JW... complete with Watchtowers and Awakes... we could pretend we were street witnessing!

Yeah, you must have gotten their after everyone moved.
I moved with the Rodarte's to California... it all seems like a dream now... it was so long ago.
I think the blind sister moved back to CA too.
I thought maybe you had heard some gossip about the Grover's. They weren't concidered very good "association". The dad was an elder but was known by many to have a foul mouth. I reported him to the other elder's for slapping his daughter in the face. I think they moved to KC after that.

I'm pretty sure they all left that area in the 80's, but thought I would take a shot anyway.

I watched the show. My blood was boiling too, but I've often ask myself the same question...
but how is this different from "Celebrate Black Heritage" events?
I don't know... it just is. Way too many years of slavery and having to cower to the white man is my guess. I know, I know... we didn't personally treat them or their ancestors like that... but still...
Seeing these children spout their "beliefs" just made me phyisically ill. Shame on their mother!

How about Buffalo... Lebanon... Bolivar... Crocker... during the 80's.I grew up in the Buffalo Congregation... 32 miles North (I think) of Springfield. I moved to Lebanon when I was 18. I might recognize a few names from the Bolivar and Crocker congregations. OH! Hermitage too.
Anyone, anyone???

I've been debating on whether or not to share this...but here goes
by findingmyway infor those of you who will be disgusted that i even attended the meeting, let alone allow my son to give his first public talk tonight, please, spare me the shouting messages.
i take full responsibility for what i experienced this evening.
yet, i feel the need to share this experience that has me enraged.

"It feels like he belongs to us." And everyone joined together in applause again.
OH MY GAWD!No tongue lashing here, my friend... Just a hug
Now take that little man of your's and get him as far away from that cult as possible. I'm so sorry. Edited to add... we try and respect their decision to be in that so-called religion, and this is how they pay us back. Jerks.
