My salvation came, neither through works nor faith, but rather when I accepted that there isn't any omniscient father-figure who will leave a single set of footprints while carrying me through my hard times, and that my wellbeing is set and maintained solely through developments that happen within this skin.

Losing Salvation
by ClassAvenger ini witnessed to a jw and he accepted that salvation comes through faith only, and the works come later showing that you are a saved person.
but he continiously argues that salvation can be lost according to our behavior.
what do you all say about this?

Ever regret having kids? Honestly!
by Ariell inthis is a thread from ivillage.
the admission from these women is a real eye opener.
i think it's easier for a mother to be more honest when she's talking to other mothers.

Hell, no! When the mother of my children and I split up, she got custody and I got visitation. The first year after the divorce they lived with me more than with her (while she periodically "got her head on straight") and at the end of that year I literally bought my boys from her. I paid her cash to go to court and swap out so that I had custody and she had visitation. She agreed on condition that she not have to pay child support.
It was the best purchase I ever made, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

When JWs Knock on Your Door....
by Frannie Banannie inwhat are your most successful methods for dealing with their visit?
do you prefer to "blow 'em off"?
or do you attempt to dissuade them from their inanity?.

Well, it hasn't happened in a long time... seems I remember that the last time I talked to witnesses at the door was about six years ago.
If they do come, though, I will first of all be polite to them, recalling how miserable I was in field service and how much I wanted not to be there. Secondly, I will let them have their say. If I see an opener, I'll try to steer the conversation in a direction that raises questions in their minds (I have a wealth of experience and knowledge to draw on). And finally, if they should happen to offer me a bible study, I'm likely to accept without ever mentioning my previous association.
Witnesses can't just blatantly damn the internet in this day. It's as integral to life (at least in my country) as is a telephone. So when I, the newly interested one, come up with questions like they invited me to do, and show them the information on the internet, they're going to be hard pressed to condemn it outright.
But even though I learned recently that my neighbors across the street are JWs, no one has called on me in door-to-door work, nor have they left a back issue or invitation since I moved to Dallas in 2000.

The last generation ends in 2005
by cherjcd inthe generation of the anointed ends in 2005 as that will conclude 70 years since the last of that special group was chosen in 1935. for many jehovah's witnesses this may be something to look forward to, but have they really thought this through?
by logically working through their doctrine of the last generation it appears that god favors the dead.
here is my latest findings on the last generation of jehovah's witnesses and the conclusion that if the watchtower is right, then god missed the boat by sending jehovah's witnesses to start their preaching work over 100 years ago.. http://jwinfoline.com/documents/prophecy/last_generation.htm.

But they came back ranting about only 2 years being left.
Good lord, people just never, never learn, do they.
Or are they new in there? Maybe they didn't experience the hysteria of 1975, and can't call on those memories for context.

Did NASA want you to see this?
by Pleasuredome inhttp://shadowboxent.brinkster.net/moon/esjmoon.html
the august, 2003 issue of electric space craft, a scientific journal, contains an amazing series of images taken from nasa footage included in the tv program, nova: to the moon.
the significance of the images has only recently been noticed.

It looks like a smokestack ejecting a puff of smoke.
Uh... no, it doesn't. Given that it originates at the bottom rather than the top of the "smokestack", it looks amazingly, astonishingly like... a shadow! Who'da thunk it?

I've had a ball with Halloween the past few years. Last year I didn't dress up, just did up Poor Yorick with his candle and candy. But the Bride of Frankenstein came to my door escorting a herd of kids, and buddy, she was FINE. I'm still kicking myself for not getting her phone number.
This year my band is playing a Halloween bash Friday, October 31st at Later Gators, 604 West Bethany Drive in Allen, TX just off 75 north. If you guys are looking for a place to party down, I humbly offer our services to entertain you while you party and dance the night away.
Past Halloween memories:
Poor Yorick (in tray with treats, accompanied by a whole different type of tasty treat)
Too much candy...
This is me manning a beanbag toss at a San Angelo school's Halloween carnival in 1999.
