  The BESTEST present ever! (NOT)

  after reading a few threads regarding the upcoming christmas season, i thought i'd post a funny story, and ask you to add to it.. if you've ever received a wacky present, or one you had to pretend that you liked, please post it.. about 5 years ago, when i first started celebrating christmas with hubby, i got a real shocker of a present.

  a deep fryer.. now, hubby was *very* proud of himself.

  you see, about three months prior to christmas we were going through costco (warehouse type store) when i noticed they had a nice little deep fryer.

  Boy, I can't believe the cluelessness of that guy, giving a deep fryer for a present! If you want to give a present that's truly meaningful, you have to pull out all the stops... money's no object, and thoughtful consideration must be given the quality and durability of the gift. Deep fryer, indeed! That's just a sign of a hurried pick with no forethought involved. It needs to be a truly meaningful gift, one that will, with proper care, provide years of appreciative enjoyment! ...A DeWalt 12" radial arm saw, for example. HAHAHAHAHAH! HAHAHAHahaha! Ah-hahahahahaha! Hahaha... haha... ah-hahaha... ah-'s not funny, huh?

  it seems like it's a badge of spirituality or something.

  you go to a congregation bbq or something, and there's always at least three brothers sitting around endlessly playing the same few chords over and over again.

  well, folks, christmas is a comin', and we start off the festive season next week as her ladyship and i have a sixsome for an evening meal.

  At the risk of incurring the guffaws of those who (like myself) have poked fun at the JW sites' depth of subject matter by saying, "Let's swap recipes!"--I have very recently developed an interest in learning real cooking, and in fact just this week I broke down and bought three cookbooks: one a basic all-purpose book by Good Housekeeping, one a specialty recipe book for slow cookers (I can already work magic with mine, given a roast and some veggies), and one called, Salsas, Sambals, Chutneys & Chow-chows (I'm a connoiseur of fine hot sauce).

  I'm still a novice, but definitely intending to become skilled at it. So, bring 'em on!

  i don't feel like i am a mindless robot and i resent the implication.. most jws try their sincere best when it comes to practising godly devotion, but isn't the 1000 yr. reign supposed to unroot all our bad tendencies?.

  here in new york and across the usa racial tensions between 'blacks and whites' are very strong.

  for some of that to spill into our brotherhood is natural.

  I remember it from around 1967, when I was 14 and in Boy Scouts. We said it to each other all the time. The radio played stuff like "Mrs. Brown, You've Got a Lovely Daughter." Jimi Hendrix released his first album with The Experience, and the wah-wah pedal hadn't been invented yet (it shows up on his second album, where he thoroughly works it over).

  I believe the money I make belongs to me and my family, not some midlevel governmental functionary with a bad comb-over who wants to give it away to crack addicts squirting out babies.

  This is a grossly distorted, deliberately misrepresentative attempt to discredit the welfare system by dehumanizing and categorizing both the government workers who deal with it and the people who receive the money, and reducing a complex issue to a black-and-white absolute. It has no connection with reality. And speaking in such a way has no connection with personal responsibility.

  Last I checked not making someone more than they are doesn't make you an asshole or a member of the KKK.

  Oh... I see you do a little of that reducing, yourself. I didn't say anything about making someone more than they are.

  i moved to my current location, a house in a quiet, friendly, family-oriented neighborhood, in july of this year.

  i've been here five months.

  i'm usually home on saturday mornings and sunday afternoons.

  Hey, Satan,

  i think 'look you up on the internet' is going to cause alarm.

  It is my intention to cause alarm. I want the fear of the internet to set in on them, and then I want them to look at the technical books on my shelf and the computer equipment on my desk and realize that they're talking to an IT professional, and that if they want to recruit me they are going to have to avoid looking like retards in my eyes by being afraid of the internet.

  I intend to provoke that particular spate of cognitive dissonance in them. I want them to wrestle with how they are going to tell me that I shouldn't be looking at internet websites. I want them to study on how best to explain that the information on the exJW websites is inaccurate, particularly when it is simply cited material from WBTS literature.

  I want them to look at the information on the screen themselves, when I as the newly interested person show it to them, pointing with my finger to the spot on the screen where the words are. I'm just an IT guy doing what I do with everything, see. I'm Joe Computerguy, and I got interested in something (Jehovah's Witnesses) so I looked it up on the 'net. How are they going to tell me I shouldn't be doing that?

  That's what I want them to think about.
