Hey, Farkster, did you notice he never answered the question? You remember Gary never would flat-out lie about it. He might hedge, but when pinned down he did tell the truth, in a verbose way. Interesting. The style is not quite Gary's, I think, after a better look. For one thing, it's too short. Gary was into posting volumes. He wouldn't use a sentence if a paragraph would do. And, I don't remember Gary ever making any spelling errors.

Still, it's strongly reminiscent of him. Yep.

Begining of the end

i don't post often and many of you seem to be relatively new to the board, so you may not know me or my situation.

i've been struggling with some the usual issues that are commented on here on a regular basis.

last sunday the elders finally asked me why i haven't been in service for the last two months.

I'm writing this because I really don't have anyone who understands the witness thing.

Man, can I relate! That's the main thing that keeps me posting on this board.

A suggestion, voltaire: get in touch with Cygnus and talk to him about how he did it. Cyg has a wife still in, and he decided to take the fading-away position rather than just fess up to doubting. It worked for a long time; for about three years they left him alone even though he grew his hair long and grew a beard. It only broke down when somebody decided to get him for having lunch with a disfellowshipped guy.

It's just a suggestion. It might be better to do the fade than to give them reason to disfellowship. I recommend it. I disassociated myself, but I think the slow fade is better.

when one stops using borg publications as a substitute for his own god-given critical thinking faculties and starts reading up on history and countless other subjects that at one time were available only in libraries but now are available also in the treasure trove of the internet on the top of everyones lap and/or desk, one will see that pastor russell and everyone that headed his cause were just next in a long line of opportunists ready to cash in spiritually, monetarily and psychologically on millenarianism hopes and fears.

ray brought out that the bible is silent about food at the proper time coming from some fds organization as opposed to the fds comment of jesus being also applicable to the individual student of the bible.

i was surprised to learn that in anticipation of the year 1000 catholic europe witnessed a lot of behavior akin to the modern-day jw phenomenon of preparing for the end in diverse ways because they knew the end was coming soon.

A New Guy from Chicago with a Story to Tell

first of all id like to say hello to everyone on this website, and to thank and acknowledge each and every one of you for your individuality, personal experience, and in some cases, commitment to truth.. having read some of the heartfelt topics and posts here have served to be a great encouragement to me, more than some could imagine.

my name is jason, and i am a recovering ex-jw.. i guess this would be an ideal time to tell my life story as an abbreviated version, so here goes.. i was "born into, or raised" in the organization.

my grandfather was an elder for 45 years, and served as one of the very first jw in the south chicagoland suburbs.

most elders are uneducated and know nothing about critical thinking. Most dubs are uneducated and know nothing about critical thinking. It doesn't surprise me in the least that a dumb dub could make up a dumb (illogical) story and dumb elders wouldn't pick up on the inconsistencies at all.
