Well, it's inevitable, given that revelation, that somebody must tell the bar joke about the two guys and the woman. Since nobody else has, I guess that leaves me. It's a dirty job, but...

Okay, so: two guys sitting in a bar, eyeing an attractive woman at a table nearby. After a bit, both of them approach her, and one says, "Excuse me, ma'am, I wonder if you would be willing to settle an argument for my friend and I, please. We're having a discussion about standards and morality. Would you answer a question for us?"

"Sure," she replies.

"Thank you," he says. "The question is whether or not you would have sex with a stranger for a million dollars. Given, of course, that he's disease-free and discreet."

"Hmm," she says, mulling it over. "Hmm... a million dollars, huh? Yes, I have to say I would do that for a million dollars."

The second guy says, "Would you be willing to take on me and my buddy for fifty bucks?"

Straight-up honesty is necessary. It's never going to work if anybody brings in any deceit. I would say it makes a beneficial difference if you're living alone rather than with a particular one of the lover contingent. Territorial awareness extends beyond a lover's person in such cases, and while her trysts may be approved, her lovers' rummaging through my things in the house is not.

There's also the "I don't want to know" aspect, in which the concept is okay as a hypothesis but they don't want to be confronted with the implementation. It's easier not to confront one lover with the reality of another if neither live with you.
