We also get those complaints in our local paper about a couple of times a year. Generally, the people complain that they work night-shifts and are trying to sleep during the day, so they can't have people calling on them when they are attempting to get some very necessary sleep (I don't really blame them). I can't say that I have ever seen any replies or rebuttals from JWs, though... I don't think newspaper-reading is generally very popular amongst them, at least not in my area.

Complaints Against JW's in Local Paper
by Chloe ini've been amused at the verbal warfare going on in my local newspaper.
they have a column on saturdays and sundays where people can write in anonymously to say what they feel.
here is what someone wrote in a couple of weeks ago:

Charasmatic Churches (Pentecostal, Assemblies of God, Foursquare, etc.)
by kristyann inthis might sound stupid to some of you... and i hope that i do not offend anyone that is a member or regular attender of a charasmatic church... but i am really confused by them.
i grew up in a nondenominational christian church... it is basically your typical nondenominational, protestant church.
the thing is, most members of charasmatic churches that i have talked to also told me that a true christian must be "baptized in the holy spirit" according to their definition of being "baptized in the holy spirit"... and if you aren't, you're not really a christian and not really "saved.".

This might sound stupid to some of you... and I hope that I do not offend anyone that is a member or regular attender of a charasmatic church... but I am really confused by them. I grew up in a nondenominational Christian church... it is basically your typical nondenominational, Protestant church. There wasn't any speaking in tongues, getting slain in the Spirit, no faith healing, etc. What was taught there was that in order to be a Christian, to be saved, all one needed to do was to believe that Jesus Christ is God, that He died on the cross for our sins and rose again, and to call on Him and be repentant of our sins. The thing is, most members of charasmatic churches that I have talked to also told me that a true Christian must be "baptized in the Holy Spirit" according to their definition of being "baptized in the Holy Spirit"... and if you aren't, you're not really a Christian and not really "saved."
I know a lot of you don't believe in the Bible or God at all... so that's fine, and I guess this question wouldn't really be directed toward you, but you can feel free to answer it anyway, for sure. But I just assume that it wouldn't really apply to you. But to anyone who does believe in the Bible or consider themselves Christians, what do you think of this belief of some of the charasmatic churches? I am not making it up... many of them told me that you have to be baptized in the Holy Spirit to be Christians, and that a sign that will "certainly be present" that a true Christian has been baptized in the Holy Spirit will be speaking in tongues or interpreting them or faith healing/miracles.
What do you think of this? Do you think this is true? Are they really the only ones that are true Christians? Are they the only ones going to heaven? If you're not baptized in the Holy Spirit according to their definition of it, are you pretty much doomed? Is there any Biblical evidence to back this up? The church I grew up in believes in baptism... but that is a water baptism in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, and it is NOT taught that this baptism is necessary for salvation. I am completely confused and am wondering what anyone thinks or knows about this subject.
Can you really be pleasing to God without being baptized in the Holy Spirit according to the charasmatic definition of it? If you're not speaking in tongues or performing miracles or something, is God unhappy with you? Does that mean you really don't have faith, if you're not doing those things? Are all of those tongues and miracles real?

Has there been any fall out yet over the Higher Education WT article?
by truthseeker inhave you heard any complaints about the wt article on higher education?.
are there those for college?
against college?.

kristyann
How is it that, after those October 2005 articles that CLEARLY slammed higher education COMPLETELY, some JWs still convince themselves that it's okay for them to go to college? Don't get me wrong.. I would encourage MANY of them to go to college (although I do not think that college is for everyone). But I definitely am not saying that they SHOULDN'T go to college... they should, especially if the alternative is "pioneering." But I am just wondering how JWs trick themselves into believing that college is okay? I know they trick themselves into thinking a LOT of things... but these articles made it COMPLETELY clear what the Watchtower's stand on higher education is... which, in essence, means "what Jehovah's position is," in the JW's minds. So how is it that people give talks about this, answer questions about it at the WT study... and then send their kids there? Does it just mean that they don't really care what Jehovah says when it comes to the opportunity to make more money?
How do they convince themselves college is okay after those VERY blatant articles?

Baptism Questions
by Honesty injust how scriptural is the watchtower when it comes to asking questions for baptism?
as you read the following account ask yourself why does the society ask the questions instead of the candidates?
could it all be about control and enslavement?

What are the 100+ questions asked before baptism? Are they just memorization of things and they ask you to repeat them back, pretty much? Are they the same questions for everyone? Anyone have a list?

I have some questions about the Memorial... but I actually have one other question first. I am signed on and posting and everything... but it still says "Welcome Guest" at the top and I can't access my private messages. Anyone know why? Does this ever happen to anyone else?
My other questions are...
How is the date for the Memorial calculated? It's obviously always right around Easter and Passover... so I assume that it has something to do with one of them. How do they decide what day it will be? I don't really get it. Since they love being so "different" from "Christendom," or any other religion, it seems funny that they would decide to copy the exact way that Easter and Passover are calculated. Well, I guess not, seeing as to how JWs pretty much like to copy plenty of other things... they pick and choose what they please.
My other question is... what would happen if I ate the bread/crackers and drank the wine at the Memorial? What would they do? I'm not a JW, I never have been, I am extremely young (I know most people who take it are old), I don't regularly attend the Kingdom Hall or anything like that. I mean, they get outraged if just a regular member takes it and not someone claiming to be the "annointed,"... so what would they do if this girl that they'd never seen before came, attended the Memorial, and took the wine and bread out of nowhere? Would they yell? Kick me out? Politely explain to me that I must have misunderstood? What if I told them that I AM one of the annointed ones? How do these people decide that they are one of the annointed ones. anyway? They just come up with it, tell everyone, and everyone else just ACCEPTS it? I don't get it. And why are all the ones claiming to be annointed so old?

anewme... is that true!? Or a joke?
Observing Texan... it's good that she's at least laughing at that. I don't know too many JWs who would laugh at the joke about the billboard saying "Want to screw up your life? Come on in!" So that's good news!

My dog ate rat poison today
by Purza inyes, it has been one of those days.
not only did i see a car full of jws at home depot running out and targeting unsuspecting victims before they walked in the store, but when i reached my destination (our rental property) there were two jws at the door.
the two at the door only said hello to me and my husband and it probably had something to do with our dog growling at them.
