The guy that I was dating before this one used to work at a nursing home when he was a kid, and some Jehovah's Witnesses from the local KH used to come in to talk to the residents once a week on Tuesdays. He said that one time the people that run the nursing home were giving the JWs a tour of the facilities, and one JW remarked to the others "This reminds me of our tour at Bethel!"

GG/BG & OFG Sitting in a Tree.....
by OpenFireGlass inwhere the hell have i been?
ummmmmmmm... i've been in love!.
it's been so long i don't even know where to begin...... well... i guess it all began here at jwd... the beauty of it all, it that this is not a dating website, and the very fact that i was falling in love with a person whom i had no idea of her physical appearance... i was falling for her inner beauty and strenght to leave everything she knew to be happy, to live life.... i had finally met a person who understood me, and i could relate to her stories.... i had met my new best friend, but didn't know it yet... things progressed..... we emailed (which later led to unsolicited photos from her).... then exchanged phone numbers, etc..... then before i know it she had convinced me to purchace an airplaine ticket to meet her.

GG or BG... thanks so much for your pep talk! It was very encouraging. Don't worry, you don't sound smug at all. You sound like a woman in love who has had experience with failed relationships and now you're willing to share your wisdom with other people. I appreciate it... plus what your therapist said makes so much sense to me. Now I just have to have the courage to get out. Congratulations again, and thanks for the compliments and encouragement. I love your pictures, and keep us updated on your awesome new relationship!

Suffering as Art and Pain Found Within Beauty
by kristyann inhey everyone, i am working on a paper that i am writing for school.
i am taking a short story that i have read and want to point out the fact that it shows suffering as art, and it shows that there is a type of beauty within pain.
the problem is, i want to compare it to other works of art (books, music, films, paintings, sculptures, etc.

Richie, good idea. That's an area I hadn't even thought of! tallpenguin, the examples you pointed out were PERFECT. The funny thing is, I was just listening to that Johnny Cash song less than an hour ago! But I wasn't even really thinking of using it as an example. (By the way, I LOVE Walk The Line). The short story (or narrative, or whatever you want to call it) that I read and am sorta reviewing is A Hunger Artist by Franz Kafka, about the guy who is a professional faster and starves himself. I guess it was considered a form of art. (Actually, I think some people still feel that way, in all honesty). Tyrone, the website has been extremely helpful... and interesting! Thanks. Narkissos and freedom, I haven't googled your suggestions yet, but I am about to. Thanks so much, I really appreciate it. I'm glad that I'm going to have a lot to choose from here.

Or...does anyone have any good quotes conveying this theme? By the way, I know it's not the most exciting topic... but I hope this thread won't turn out like the kind JH referred to earlier... the kind where you post and then no one responds! I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Hey everyone, I am working on a paper that I am writing for school. I know where I want to go with it. I am taking a short story that I have read and want to point out the fact that it shows suffering as art, and it shows that there is a type of beauty within pain. The problem is, I want to compare it to other works of art (books, music, films, paintings, sculptures, etc.) that portray this "suffering as art" type of concept. I know that there are many of them, but I want really good examples to use in my paper. Anyone have any really good examples of suffering as a form of art, or pain as a form of beauty, maybe something that is a favorite to you? Sorry to always bother you all with my crazy questions!

Is it normal to love a spouse more than your child(ren)?
by unbeliever ini was watching this show in passing and they had a woman on there that said she loved her husband more than her children.
she said by putting her husband first it made her marriage stronger and happier and therefore it made her a better mother.. i did a double take when i heard that.
i don't think it is normal to love a spouse more than your child.

I don't believe that it's unnatural or weird to love your spouse more than your children. I don't have children or a spouse, so maybe people would think I'm not really a reliable source to speak on such a topic. But from what I can tell, it's true that they are two different kinds of love. But if you have a marriage the way God intended it, the two become one flesh. The marriage relationship is supposed to be an illustration of Jesus Christ's relationship with His Bride, the Church. There is nothing more beautiful or powerful than that. It's supposed to be the most sacred of relationships.
