David (Martin) Burridge found NOT GUILTY at Crown Court !
by Phizzy ini wonder what the details are that led to the verdict ?.
http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/11857866.man_found_not_guilty_of_indecently_assaulting_young_girl/.
perhaps someone has a way to find out what happened ?.

There is a big difference between "not guilty" and "innocent". The courts did not find him "innocent", they found there is not enough evidence to find him guilty.
That said, painful as it is for some individuals involved... society as a whole must consider him innocent until proven guilty.

A letter To My Friend
by Garrett inhey guys,.
so i've written up a letter to my friend that i plan on sending him to try to wake him up.

Print the letter, sign it, address it. Then put it in your desk drawer for at least one month. If you still want to send it then, go ahead.
IMHO sending this letter will drive you friend further into the Borg mind. You are giving them 'something to do', a righteous call to action, a test, an opportunity for him to demonstrate his faith. Your letter will probably be passed direct to the elders and your friend will get that warm fuzzy feeling of 'doing the right thing'. It may well strengthen their faith, avoiding a nasty apostate attempting to tempt them away is no mean feat!
The advice to perhaps meet and have a coffee would be better. Don't bring up any JW related issues until they ask and then only answer the questions they asked without launching into a tirade!

WT is trying to scare off memorial partakers
by cookiemaster ini don't know how many of you still participate in the sunday wt study, but i unfortunately still do.
even though i was asleep half of the time, i did notice something i thought i should share with the rest, in case you haven't noticed.
a lot of the paragraphs were worded strongly against partaking and used clear language of intimidation and discouragement toward anyone thinking of partaking.

I think if I were on the GB I would have an official anointed registration scheme, probably with a cost attached... those swanky retirement homes don't build themselves you know. -

Skills Gap
by M*A*S*H inthe jws have now been discouraging higher education and critical thinking for a long time.
we have all seen the 'dumbing down' of the wt literature.
on a personal level i have seen many of the perceivably intelligent younger members of congregations leave.

Sadly, having thought on this somewhat, I think that JWs may become increasingly difficult to de-convert. If they do not have the skills to examine doctrine, explore religious ideas and delve in-depth into their own religion, what hope do we have of asking questions that will make them question anything as they do not know anything in the first place?

Is anything holy?
by Half banana inis anything holy?.
i would maintain that holiness can only come from the attitude of people ascribing something as holy.
holiness never comes from the "holy" object, spirit or humans described as being holy..

I think that the religion's conversation rate, which is already terrible in terms of man hours, can only suffer as the new stock of JWs are 'dumbing down'. This dumbing down will become self perpetuating as they are now highly unlikely to attract new blood from the society's intelligentsia (or even those that got through college). -

joe134cd: The fact that it is easy to find out about JW culture is important as highlighted in your post. This is why I get concerned by a ever increasing pervasive idea taught and practised in schools, the press and increasingly in the work place - the idea of 'respect'. I do have a big problem when we are asked to 'show respect' for ideas or philosophies that do not deserve it. IMHO it's important that the TTATT especially not be tainted by the faux respect we are all asked to show.

In my experience many of the congregation elders where I grew up did come across as being quite intelligent. We had a journalist, dentist, logistics expert, civil servant, engineer and even some of the other less qualified elders were pretty accomplished public speakers with a very good knowledge of the NWT. Maybe this was an exception to the rule!
