Where did Jehovah go ?
by Deleteandrestart infor the many years i was mentally " in " the congregation, i equated the organisation as interchangeable with the persona of jehovah, in effect whatever the organisation said or thought, that was what jehovah thought and that was what jehovah said.... it was that simple.
so when i found out the ttatt and the cynical moves of the organisation over the years, including 1975 , the donation arrangements, the united nations, etc i was devastated and thought " where's jehovah in all of this?".
the god who i'd poured my heart out to on many occasions and who i thought was silently listening and hearing my pleas ..... was not there , .

Awake #4/2016: Homosexuality
by Designer Stubble inthe new awake is up on jw.orgwith the legalization of gay marriage in many countries, they decided it was time to show: "what does thebible say about homosexuality?
"does the bible promote prejudice?still, some people would say that the bible promotes prejudice against homosexuals and that those who adhere to itsmoral code are intolerant.

@Cofty. I would not say you have answered the question clearly at all... for example
By that definition no the Watchtower are not homophobic. Other dictionaries define the word in ways that would encompass the position of the cult. [Cofty]
My point is that characterising the Watchtower as hateful and homophobic seems a bit heavy in comparison. [Cofty]
You even made up a spectrum of homophobia (that does not exist). I think I showed that even the definition of homophobia you used (from ADL) applies to the WBTS because they in some forms 'fear' homosexuals. Again you seem reluctant?
There is no reasonable way to interpret the bible other than a total unequivocal condemnation of gay sex as a sin.
There is no reasonable way to explain the overlapping generations, but that is current theology. It would only take a similar amount of mental gymnastics to reinterpret the bible to better fit today's society.
This page shows some interesting views on the topic from a Christian source. As time moves on and a more liberal generation fills the ranks I am sure views will soften and eventually acceptance will increase. Public condemnation of their homophobic views will play a part in this.
You assume that if the 'new light' came out tomorrow 'accepting homosexuals' they would lose most of their membership. Firstly, I thought that when they redefined the generation in 95... didn't happen. Second of all, a great many members I suspect would just hail the change as further evidence of a loving God that is communicating through the FDS.
Sadly I think the older JWs will have to die out before change can happen. However until then I personally believe continued condemnation of their homophobic views should be called out - as I am sure many JW's find this a worst embarrassing and at best a reason to question their behaviours.

@Cofty.
Firstly you know full well I have read many of your posts, I made this clear in a previous comment on this thread.
Secondly...I have never made any excuses for the WT on their attitude to homosexuality or any other topic. [Cofty]
My point is that characterising the Watchtower as hateful and homophobic seems a bit heavy in comparison. [Cofty]
Thirdly I have already answered your question.I expect them to change their interpretation of the bible.
They could consider the verses in Matthew 19 v 10-12 as I also mentioned earlier in the topic.
So if we are not making excuses anymore... is the WBTS homophobic Cofty or does that seem a bit heavy? -

Potential Life and Death Issue for Faders?
by M*A*S*H inplease excuse if this topic is duplicated elsewhere.
however i had not thought of the issue highlighted in the article from the point of those potentially fading before.. https://www.the-newshub.com/general/life-or-death-for-former-jehovahs-witnesses.
so what happens when a medical emergency arises?in the event you face a medical emergency in which you are incapacitated, jw elders and family show up to produce legal documents that will allow them to take over your medical care including withholding blood to cause your death.

So what happens when a medical emergency arises?
In the event you face a medical emergency in which you are incapacitated, JW elders and family show up to produce legal documents that will allow them to take over your medical care including withholding blood to cause your death. To further complicate matters, often when former members leave they often hold to this perpetrated fraud promotion thinking that blood is some form of inferior treatment that should be avoided when medical treatment calls for it. So they do nothing about their legally filed paperwork with the JWs. As a result, they give a cult the keys to their medical care and provide them with the rights to legal murder.Has anybody heard of the JW elders potentially enforcing non blood treatment for someone fading in this potentially scary scenario?
The article has a link to a 'durable power of attorney' form which presumably can override the JWs medical form. I have no clue to the legality of it, but presumably it would be better than nothing!?

please show evidence that western governments have brought political pressure on governments run by homophobic extremists to be less homophobic.
On a different line of debate, I am still a little unsure why some view the amount of debate on a homophobic video as racism? I have posted on JWN regarding this video multiple times but I have not commented on this forum (as far as I remember) regarding the ISIS murder of homosexuals. It seems that some view this as racism?
I am just wondering at what point comment, opinion and outrage over this video becomes racism of some kind. If I post one comment on the video and non on the ISIS murders does that make me a racist? If I post 100 comments and non on the ISIS murders am I a racist?
@Cofty. As you quite commendably said 'I refuse to make excuses for any human being based on their race or culture' would you agree that the WBTS' video and literature demonstrates the organisation is homophobic? Perhaps you only actively make excuses for human beings based on their 'religion'?

If Armageddon happened tomorrow and you were judged, would you make it through? Surely a couple of things you might 'fail' on would be mixing with apostates on this forum and using 'ungodly' language (amongst your other admitted JW failings). If you care about JWs so much, why not attempt being one?

Beliefs About What Caused the Universe
by Perry inthe universe can be observed to be expanding.. an expanding universe must have had a beginning.
whatever begins to exist had a cause.
therefore the universe had a cause.

@Perry. Just out of interest how have you jumped to the god conclusion when considering the so called 'first cause'? Could the 'first cause' be materialistic? The big bang could just be part of an perfectly natural process?

Who are "eunuchs who were born that way"?Matthew 19
10 The disciples said to him, “If this is the situation between a husband and wife, it is better not to marry.”
11 Jesus replied, “Not everyone can accept this word, but only those to whom it has been given. 12 For there are eunuchs who were born that way, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by others—and there are those who choose to live like eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it.” -

I think you are right, western internet forums will probably have featured more discussions regarding the recent JW cartoon than the murder of homosexuals by ISIS. I do not think the reason for this is racism or people getting "a kick out of public displays of outrage". Sure some SJWs fall into this bracket, but I very much doubt it explains the issue.
Some of the reasons why I personally think we see this issue:
- I would be more inclined to post here (or on other forums) if the issue at hand directly effects my own community. I do not think that makes me racist. Just like I would probably post more regarding 'JW shunning' rather than 'Catholic Excommunication'... that does not mean I value the people's suffering differently.
- Nobody questions if throwing homosexuals from buildings is wrong, so what discussion is there to have? I think and hope almost everybody would agree!
- Western media outlets cover the ISIS story fully, the JW cartoon is not.
- In the West various religions attempt to sneak homophobia through the backdoor by attempting to dress their homophobic views up as non-homophobic. When people see this type of double speak I think they are likely to call it out.
- I think people living in Western countries expect equal rights for gay people. When they see homophobia in their own community they are very likely to react. I do not think this is a show of racism toward gay communities abroad.
In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends. [Martin Luther King, Jr.]
