that kind of black and white thinking and demonism of former JW's is a very effective mind-control method for the GB. It's really sad.

Fear of Apostates.
by jeeprube ini've been looking at other jw message boards today, and i was struck by the total fear they have of apostates.
i've been out long enough for it to surprise me.
these people live in actual dread of "evil apostates".

Pol Pots Paradise
by ballistic indon't know if anyones mentioned this before, but i found it scary reading the site below about pol pots attempt to create an agrarian utopia.
scary because there are similarities between what dubs would need to do to create paradise and what he did.. http://www.unitedhumanrights.org/genocide/pol_pot.htm.
from the link above:.

Did any of you head off to University after leaving the org
by yaddayadda inone of my biggest regrets is not getting a degree, due to the jw brain-washing against higher education.
i feel a strong sense of never having reached my academic potential and having been restricted in many ways by this.
i was a high achiever at high school + some teachers were bemused that i never went on to varsity.

Scholar, you are aparently unaware of studies proving that the prevalence of available pornography in a society significantly reduces the occurance of sexual crimes
Nonsense. Where are these so-called studies?

"We are the only religion on earth that can claim to be unhypocritical."
by Bonnie_Clyde inthose are the exact words of the po's wife today at the wt study.
i wrote them down as she said them.
the next comment by one of the servants was, "if we accept the authority of the faithful and discreet slave, we cannot go wrong.

So says a woman who has lived in an insular, bubble world probably nearly her whole life and would run from the slightest proof of the Society's hypocrisy as if her ass was on fire. Tie her down in front of a computer and force her to research a few JW expose websites like this and she would soon think twice. It takes a lot of heat to melt mental permafrost.

My exScientology friend...
by james_woods ini have a friend who backed out of scientology way back when hubbard was still alive.
we go to lunch together quite often here at work.
we have often commented about the great similarity & difficulty between breaking away from wt and from the scientologists.

I feel a strong sense of never having reached my academic potential and having been restricted in many ways by this. I was a high achiever at high school + some teachers were bemused that I never went on to varsity. Since leaving the dubs a couple of years ago I have a strong desire to just dive into the blue and head off to varsity and get my damned degree. My career sucks and I want a change. It feels like a scary thing to do at the age of 38 but it also feels kinda like it's now or never for me to get off the working merry-go-round and take the plunge. I am completely unmotivated by money and couldn't care less if my degree never equates to increased earning potential, just so long as I enjoy it. As an intellectual adventure.
Have any of you taken this leap since leaving the org? Was it worth it?

Maybe you can help ... my queste for 17+ years ...
by Vivamus inwhen i was a kid, we used to spend every weekend at my grandparants house.
my grammy had a huge leather brown couch, on which we watched movies (i was either on the couch or hiding in her arms cuz the movie scared me sh*tless).
one day, we were watching a movie, which endscene has haunted my mind ever since.

hey that's spooky cuz there is a movie scene I remember from very young childhood and wish I knew what the movie was. There was a desert or vast plain with a huge tree in it standing all alone. a few people, or possibly just one, were standing near the tree. suddenly a huge tsunami wave starts rolling towards them. they dash up the tree. the whole plain is now like a lake.
scared the living sh*t outta me. maybe it was some biblical movie, I don't know.

I am having a real struggle trusting 'worldlings' and forming friendships outside the org since leaving. But I have always been very independent and never had that many friends even in the org. I thought most of the brothers were knobs. I think I am a closet misanthrope and maybe JW's made me that way.
