I'm convinced that the Society has somehow rationalised in their minds that their UN dealings are in the same bracket as their dealings with the Supreme Court or European Court, where they have aggresively fought legal battles. It's all just part and parcel of the 'earth' that swallows up the dragon's water. They seem not to feel that the UN is really political and is more a protector of human rights like the Courts are. Probably think they are oh so clever for using some of Satan's elements against him. How would you define the UN? I believe it is more or less just a multilateral treaty. Is a treaty a legal or political arrangement, or both? Doesn't change the fact that they are hypocritical for critizing other religions for hooking up with the UN.

A New Earth--Eckhart Tolle
by moanzy inanyone have a chance to read this book?
it's very good and an easy read.
if you like "the power of now" you will like this one.

I read it and didn't care for it much. Some good points on relationships but generally he's way too 'out there'. A much better, more grounded book is 'The Secret of Letting Go' by Guy Finley. It was a profound, mystical experience reading that book and I have never forgotten it's lessons. I still practice them regularly.

Better DVD out there than "The God Who Wasn't There (2005)"?
by Xander ina well-advertised dvd covering the argument that jesus did not exist.
linkage.
now, i've certainly done a lot of on- and off- line research on the topic, and 99% of this is repetition to me.

I think you'll struggle to find what you're after, simply because there is no 'evidence, backed up by facts' that supports atheism. Atheism is just intellectual bravado, in the same way that fervent religiosity is ardent faith. The only happy medium is open-minded scepticism.

A really good book about Watchtower history
by Gary1914 ini recently discovered a great book which i would like to recommend.
it is called a people for his name and it was written by a jehovah's witness named timothy white.
i love this book and it helps one to see the origins of many things taught by the witnessing such as disfellowshipping and the blood doctrine.

Come One Come All Deliverence is near Get your Convention Program here
by Tea4Two in"deliverance at hand" is the theme for the jehovah's witnesses district convention may 26 to 28 at the resch center.
serving parts of wisconsin, michigan and the upper peninsula, the convention opens the season for district meetings throughout the united states.
nearly 11 million people attended the 2,981 district conventions last year.

Conventions these days are mainly just boring, contrived experiences, interviews and demonstrations. All fluff and padding. The Society says its wicked for kids to attend birthdays because we shouldn't put ourselves on a pedestal, but at every convention or assembly they have loads of loyal dubbies come out onto the stage to tell everyone how clever and righteous they are.

Why would God choose JW's over any other religion?
by JH in.
what do they have that other religions don't have?.
what truth do they possess, that makes the whole difference between life and death?.

JW's fervently believe that God has chosen them because they believe that they alone teach the main core bible truths. They feel that when Jesus did his inspection in 1914 he choose Russell and co because only they were adhering to these core truths, unlike the rest of Christendom. The earliest Christians had no concept of a trinity, did not believe in a burning hell of fiery torment, did not believe the soul was immortal. These teachings are what makes JW's feel so unique and convince them that they have God's backing. They honestly believe they are a modern day revival of primitive Christianity that is in stark contrast to all other Christian denominations in these matters. There are other groups, like the Christadelphians, for example, that teach similar things as they do, but to the mind of the JW's they are just a shallow imitation. And if you tell a JW that they Christadelphians doctrines are very similar, the typical JW will then resort to a different level of distinction in his mind and say 'oh, but only JW's use God's name Jehovah, and Christadelphians don't believe anyone goes to heaven and they don't believe the devil is real'. If you can convince a JW that the trinity is true, that the human soul is immortal, that hell is a literal place of eternal suffering, that the Kingdom of God is not a government rulership, that there is no future paradise earth to come, then you will convince them that they have nothing over any other religion. Good luck!

Is this the ultimate question to ask a JW?
by jwfacts inpeople always ask what subject they should raise with their jw relatives.
the problem is, what is important to you is often of no consequence to me.
no one knows what will be the issue to change a relatives mind.

It's completely pointless to try and argue with most JW's on the basis of dates etc, because to most of them it makes no difference even if the Society is wrong on those things. All you end up doing is going around in circles because as Drew Sagan said, it is their blend of other core doctrines that gives the Society legitimacy in the rank and files minds. The fact that JW's are by far the biggest religion to preach against the Trinity, hellfire, immortal soul, paradise hope, etc etc is what keeps them enthralled. As long as the Society keep teaching those things the great majority will always stick with them no matter what.

I fail to see where the manuscripts are held as having any relevance to the issue whatsoever. One could just as easily argue that it makes perfect sense for the Vatican to have the manuscripts if the Roman Catholic Church is at the heart of the 'apostasy' and 'man of lawlessness' that were predicted.
