Didn't Charles Russell say in the very first Watchtower in 1879? that it will continue as long as God provides the funds and if the funds ever dry up it will mean God wants the Watchtower to stop.

Lyman Swingle (GB) told me what would bring down the Organization!
by new boy init was about 15 years ago.......... i was at a one day special event in woodburn or.
i was talking to lyman swingle about how the society could save some money.
it was a crazy idea ( to crazy to relate here)...............anyway he laughed and said to me.. "brother..........we have always had the money to do the things we needed to do.......and if we didn't.......we felt it was god's holy spirit telling us, it wasn't what we should be doing".......so...i said "so the money is like a barometer, no approval, no money"......he said "yea..... i guess you could say that!

How is the Mystery Doctrine from The Three Worlds still playing out
by yaddayadda inthis is an intriguing subject that the new book "the four presidents of the watch tower society (jehovah's witnesses)": edited by edmond c. gruss, apparently discusses.
anyone know what this 'three worlds' thing is about?
what is this 'mystery doctrine' that the society once taught?

Thank you very much Coco and others. Very interesting.
The following quotes are spooky given the theme of next year's District Conventions, ie, "Follow The Christ"? Perhaps the Society is going to resuscitate this hoary old chestnut of a teaching:
1911: Christ composed of many members (1 Cor. 12:12) The Messiah is prepared/ is first, followed by the Apostles and then various other members of the body through the Gospel age. "This age will end when the full number of the 'elect' shall have been found and tested. Then the body will have been completed. When The Messiah is complete, The Christ will be complete." p. 165/from WT Reprints, 6/15/1911, p. 4841
THE HARP OF GOD, by JFR, p. 187:
"The Christ is composed of Jesus, the great and mighty head, and the 144,000 members...." -

The Society Isn't about Money. The Governing Body isn't the Illuminati.
by under_believer inno, it's not a vast conspiracy for the governing body to get rich.
it's about power and control, but not personal power and control.
the watchtower society is a living, nigh-sentient entity unto itself.

I agree entirely that it is not about money and personal riches or personal power. This aspect is greatly exaggerated.
It's my belief that they only thing that would ever destroy the organisation is if they did the unbelievable in the minds of the average JW: accepted the 'false teachings' of Christendom. That is what happened to the WCG after Herbert Armstrong died.
But as long as the WTS keeps teaching their unorthodox combination of core beliefs that for the most part are traced back to Charles Russell, ie, non-trinity, mortality of the soul, kingdom government rule over a paradise earth, and earthly and heavenly resurrections, they will always attract a large, loyal following no matter what happens to prominent individuals within the WTS.
Actually, your argument would probably be taken by the typical JW to be proof that it is the one true religion, because no matter what scandals or changes of personnel/leadership occur within it, JW's feel that if it is God's then it won't be stopped. Thus JW's sincerely believe that nothing can really harm the Society, no matter how big the scandal. -

Anyone know what this 'Three Worlds' thing is about? What is this 'Mystery Doctrine' that the Society once taught? I vaguely recall hearing it from my childhood.
I guess I should just buy the book huh. A belated Chrissy present to myself LOL. -

Knorr on 1914: "I don't know." - Mouthy Alert!
by compound complex indear mouthy and other denounced ones,.
you may find this double standard $%^@#@*&!
"in 1975, knorr made a remarkable and candid statement to the governing body, which confirmed his growing disillusionment until his death two years later: ["]'"there are some things i know --- i know that jehovah is god, that christ jesus is his son, that he gave his life as a ransom for us, that there is a resurrection.

Just more astonishing double standards and hypocrisy.
The GB are free to hold and express doubts about and vote against certain of their own teachings, yet rank and file publishers are hauled up before JC's on charges of 'apostatsy' and 'causing divisions' for doing the same thing. -

Do other religions have questions you're not allowed to ask ?
by A Paduan inthere seem to be certain unanswerable questions that only "apostates" would ask - ones that sort of send up a flare.. do other religions have these "you must be the debbil" fears of thought ?.
-

I can remember praising people on the doors for asking questions. We got a bit excited when a householder seemed interested enough to ask questions. I can even remember telling a bible study that their asking questions was a good sign, that it meant they were 'thirsting' for righteousness. How ironic that once they're in the organisation asking questions becomes a big no-no.

Ongoing 'Don't shun me' campaign.
by AK - Jeff inas many of you know by now - i do not tolerate 'shunners'.
i have done no evil, killed no one, never raped or pillaged any witnesses.
i do not tolerate small-minded witnesses who called me 'brother' for most of 40 years, now acting as if i am no better than sh*t on the bottom of their shoes.

Most controversial?
by joe_black ini know that most of what the wbts says and does is viewed by many of us as hogwash, but what do you think was the most controversial thing that happened or was said by the watchtower in 2006?...............i mean something so obviously off the wall or sinister that it would make even the most hardcore jw pause and say, "hey, what the f*ck?!!
"

The biggest hypocritical load of BS was the worldwide special tract campaign announcing "False Religion's End is Near".
"Thank you God that I am not like all the other sinners around me", prayed the self-righteous Pharisee. -

Contradictions surrounding the virgin birth and the four gospels
by truthseeker inthe article below is very thought provoking and it's hard to ignore the textual criticisms.
does anyone agree/not agree with the points presented?.

The standard defense of the historicity of the Virgin Birth is J. Gresham Machem's "The Virgin Birth of Christ". It's never really been adequately answered.

"Jehovah Has Become King", video by Robert King

Robert King remains so convinced that JW's are exclusively 'God's people' that he teaches on his website that Satan and the demons deliberately started WW1 to fool JW's into believing in their 1914 chronology! That has to take the cake as the most loony rationalisation for getting around your cognitive dissonance I've ever read.
It must be great fun inventing completely unscriptural, wild speculative theories to explain away another one.
King also believes he is a prophesied singular modern-day Ezekiel like 'Watchman' being used by Jehovah to denounce the organisation. He's written a whole essay on it. Do you think its all going to his head? LOL.
