Early Christianity - a cult?

i was wondering if anyone has applied the criteria that identifies a cult to first century christianity, as described in the bible, and historical records from the first three centuries.

have any of you run across a discussion like that while reading books on cults, hopefully by an author that is either supportive of, or tolerant of christianity?.

From another thread, I understand that it was the Catholic church which added Job to the Bible books. Perhaps Job is one book that really does NOT belong in the Bible scriptures because of it's fantasy and Mythological implication?

I am not a Bible scholar...so I am just guessing here.

How does one get marked?

ok, i've been involved with jw's for 15 years or so, but i've not been deep enough into any "clicks" to know how someone gets "marked".

will someone explain?

i'm sure i must have been marked more than once for stupid reasons - only going to 2-3 of the 5 weekly meetings (hey, some of us do have to do laundry every now and then), not commenting enough (they wouldn't want to hear my comments now), not going out in service enough, etc.

Quite frankly, I wouldn't have missed the experience of being a JW for anything in the world....I am so glad it happened early in my life because I might have been persuaded to be a JW later in life and been lost forever and ever. Now I know what NOT to look for in a religion. And that is a blessing from God.

Will the new system be uncrowded?

i was talking to an elder yesterday about how enjoyable it is to get away from civilization in remote wilderness areas, unlike the circus you see at places like yosemite natl.

with dreamy eyes he mentioned how great it will be in the "new system", when "we can enjoy uncrowded conditions.".

What view did you have of apostates when you were a JW?

i can remember being an attendant at one of the circuit assemblies in nottingham, where a group of pentecostals were picketing out by one of the gates.

i was intrigued for a short while, until a guy in a motorised wheelchair type thing, tried to get into the assembly by ramming himself into us.

i could of quite happily baptised him in the trent !!

I thought they were all a bunch of rabid Born-Agains. This board helped me see that that wasn't the case at all.

Hahahaa...I have an inlaw that is a Born Again...when she heard I left the witnesses she called me up and said she was praying that I would see the light....I could just see her foaming at the mouth as she starting in preaching....I told her that I didn't believe in any religious organization including hers. That I read the Bible and depend solely on God's spirit to help guide me. What did she THINK!! That I was going to come over to her way of thinking. The trinity and so on and so forth. NO WAY!

as i mentioned in my last post that im studying the book what the bible really teaches,anyway im now on the bit about who is jesus,now it uses the scripture col1:15 does this prove he was created where it says hes the firstborn.

How many left the JW cult after.....

the age of 40?.

seems like a lot have left after 1/2 or 2/3 of a lifetime.

what accounts for that in your mind, if you left in later middle years or older?.

I faded in 1999 because so many things told me this was not the truth.

I left it up to Jehovah at that time to decide if I was worthy to be in the new earth or not. I had no idea of the Malawi/Mexico and Pedophile issue untill I found this web site 2 months ago...

Actually the UN issue doesn't bother me. maybe because I didn't see the UN as the Beast at that time. Although it does make the GB hypocrites!

But now I see the WTS as the beast trying to take the place of God.
