I recently re-read "the four agreements."
the author talks about how everything in this world is an illusion, a dream. a dream that the whole planet and almost every human buys into. I remember reading that for the first time and it was a breathtaking realization. I began to see the fragility of *normal* life even more so. How quickly disaster can strike, and how fleeting life can be.
this *dream* that most of us humans have is just that - a dream, a facade. when we left the *dream* of the org., did we really trade up for something better? I don't think so. Like you LT accepting the fact that life is full of harsh realities has been one of the most *heady* experiences yet. some days I actually long for the *simpleness* of the illusion that the org. created for me. everything was cut and dry - black and white. other days the simpleness of that state of mind makes me sick to my stomach.
still glad I'm out though. I don't have all answers, but I'm glad to be free from the mental yoke of slavery.

Stability to Chaos - A Survival Guide
by LittleToe inthe thread title is a reference to how i hope this thread will evolve, rather than my own pretentious aspirations.. for many of us, perhaps especially if we were raised as jws, the whole world was pretty black and white.
we knew what we were doing, why we were here, where we were going, in the midst of a chaotic world we had a stability that others envied - or so we thought.... for most of us reading this site our eyes have likely at some point been opened to realise that many of our previous strongly-held beliefs were dust.
if we have left the wts or been forcibly ejected then we have also experienced shunning.

Mmmmmm...donuts
by damselfly ini was tempted into buying a bag of mini cinnamon sugar donuts.
so tasty, yet so bad for you.
but then i got to pondering (okay, okay i was trying to rationalize with my brain that *yes* i should eat them ;p ) .

he he he at Elsewhere....
ah yes. the donut. it's too good. can't buy them and have them around or I'll eat them all. I do treat myself now and again though. I've lost weight since leaving the org. - must be all those donut breaks I don't do anymore. hmmmm? -

Not quite sure where else to go, I'll give this place a try.
by AnonyMouse ini'll introduce myself:
i'm a person who'd like to remain anonymous.
i'm 16, and recently confessed to my mother my disbelief in her religion (jehovah's witnesses, obviously so).

Wow! what a story.
thanks for sharing it. you have for sure come to the right place.
I can relate to feeling trapped. I grew up my whole life feeling that way with my JW parents.
You are getting some great advice here. I would definitly read RichieRich's threads. He went through the same situation as you. He could probably help you learn to avoid some mistakes also.
Get a job. Finish school. Start saving money. Build friendships on the outside of the org. Get a counselor you can confide in (make sure they have confidentiality! my sisters counselor told my JW parents everything that she confided in the counselor. it was not good for her after that!) I would make a mark down till freedom day. It really does help you stay sane. learn all you can about the religion on here. it's origins, it's teachings, its fallacies. You will grow leaps and bounds in the next two years. It will go by faster if you can implement your plan.
keep trying to show love to your mother. I know it's hard to do with someone that treats you unfairly. your mom is brainwashed and she really does think she is doing the right things for you. try to be the better person, you never know how it will help you in the end.
keep posting lots!

Night Owl or Early Bird?
by damselfly ini can't sleep, i'm usually up until 2 (or later) every night.......then the alarm goes off at 6:30 and i'm up to start my day.
i find that i'm more alert and productive in the night time, however i am sooo tired of not being able to sleep.
so how about you, night owl or early bird?
-
freedomlover
Night owl for sure...
however having two kids, a husband, working I tend to be pretty beat these days when 10 or 11 rolls around. I do prefer nights though. mornings are my husbands best time and he knows to leave me alone till he's made the coffee and I'm drinking my first cup. -

Why did you choose your USER NAME?
by In Between ini think some people actually use part of their real name.
i chose mine because i really feel 'in between', in that space where your not a jw anymore but really haven't figured out where you are in life and what path you want to take.
just thought it would be an interesting topic.

***This was driving me crazy with curiosity. "Why" I would ask myself "why, would an ex-jw choose such a name???". Thanks for clearing that up. It's kind of like my ex-wife's username, "HempLover". **
glad to clear it up for you.....and holy cow I didn't know you and hemp lover were ex's!!! learn something new every day don't ya?! -

I chose mine because of the totally euphoric feeling of FREEDOM I had when I first "saw the light." It was like a drug I felt so high at first......

How Will You Die at Armageddon?
by Nosferatu in.
before i found this website, i accepted the fact that i was going to be destroyed at armageddon.
but now that i know it's a big lie, i don't worry about that.. but just for fun, if you could choose your armageddonly death, how would you like to go?

I too would probably hike to a peak of some mountain so I'd have a better view. Ya know, this is an event that will NEVER be repeated on earth again, or so the bible says so.
I'd have a mind altering substance stronger than alcohol, but a nice bottle of wine would be great also. I'd have to have paper and a pen so I could write down what I was feeling watching all of this scene. I'd probably cry and cuss Jah out for being such a sicko. Then I'd do an old IPSEC and give god the bird one more time! Then I'd probably laugh myself silly.....because of the amount of irony of the whole damn situation.
After that....sure zap me Jehovah. just get it over quick....nobody likes a long drawn out death.
