Do You Know What I Hated About Service?
by Legolas inwell other then going out that is....lol...i was the one, i would say 8 times out of 10, that i was stuck talking to the men!

Oh man, I hated just about everything and tried everything I could to get out of it. I dreaded talking to people who were obviously busy with doing something else on their Sat. mornings. I went to high school in the area but was not a witness until after I graduated so I was always worried I would meeet someone I went to high school with.
Most of my time came from "informal" witnessing

NYC people or those that have been there
by mariposa init appears we will be visiting nyc from about the 16th of dec. for a week or so.
we are going to see some long lost friends of my husband in queens and i'm sure they'll show us around, but there's also going to be alot of drinking and catching up between them and i'll have quite a bit of free time on my hands.
i don't know if we're going to stay with them or not, i've been checking on craigslist for an apt or something we could rent.

Thanks for the info. I don't know where in queens his friends are...i'll find out.
For the subway, do you have to buy a separate ticket for a baby?
Where else around NYC would be good to stay since we're driving up? I really want to stay closer to manhatten, but I don't want to drive the truck anywhere where I'm going to regret it!
And I guess I should ask....what are your favorite things to do there? Everyplace I look, it's like there's millions of things to do and I can't do them all!!!

Wendy Burgers
by pobthespazz inwhat ever happened to wendy burgers?
they finished their uk operation about 10 years ago , are they still big in the usa?.
i used to love the square burgers that made them famous and the fries were good as well , including a nice salad bar, far better then the mc**** that we see on every street now..
-
mariposa
Oh yeah - they're still around here in the south! No more salad bars though, they did away with that several years ago. Bummer cause that was my favorite part.
Our new big thing is Zaxby's. Chicken, chicken and more chicken. They're popping up everywhere. WIngs and chicken fingers with like 8 different sauces. Good stuff..damn good stuff!!

Hambeaks Extremely Heartbreaking News
by Sparkplug inour friend hambeak just got the most dreaded phone call from his jw child.
the news was passed on as he was asked for by name and not as"dad" and let known that "they" just called to let him know that his other son, brian, age 26, is dead.
he was in a car accident.

Oh no...I'm so very sorry to hear this. I read almost all of Hambeak's post and you're a great guy. The lack of compassion from the "family" gets my blood boiling!
My thoughts are with you

I don't know if we're going to stay with them or not, I've been checking on Craigslist for an apt or something we could rent. I've never been there before and I have some questions.
1- We are driving our 4-door tundra truck. I don't want to drive it around the city because I've heard horror stories about NYC drivers, but getting in and out of Queens or other areas, is it hard to do with a larger vehicle?
2- What are some other areas that are safe to stay? And what do cab fares/ subway fares run to get into the city?
3- I've got a 17-month old who will be going everywhere with me. Should I take a stroller or would a backpack type holder be better?
4- Are there playgrounds in Central Park? Are there any indoor playgrounds anywhere? My little rugrat is going to get tired of just walking around and want to run and be free...
I'm got more I'll add later. I'd love to meet up with any of you guys who live there...it'll give me an excuse to get away from long conversations about people I don't even know!!!! Thanks so much!!!

As a DUB, what did you do and hid so as not to stumble anyone?
by megsmomma ini was thinking of all the "concious matters" that you could do if you wanted, but would not tell anyone so you wouldn't get in "trouble".
one thing that came to my mind is when after having my baby, i wanted to join weight watchers...there were two meeting places to choose from...one close to me and in a church....and one quite far not in a church.
well, i went to the one in the church, always worried someone would see me(but i didn't really think it was a big deal) so, what did you all hide?
-
mariposa
I lived by myself almost the whole time I was a dub so I did pretty much anything I wanted w/o people knowing. I went to go see all the star wars and lord of the ring movies in a theatre kinda far from my house and was bummed I didn't have anyone to talk with about them. I listened to just about whatever I wanted to, but would hide the cd's if "the friends" got in the car.
