What Things Were You Deprived Of Because You Were A Jehovah's Witness?
by minimus ini think back at some of the simpler things we couldn't do or have because we were a witness.
i hardly know my father's (worldly) side of the family.
didn't know my grandfather, grandmother, aunts, uncles, cousins.

openfireglass's kitten is too cute
I try to think of any good things I did during the time I was in. Try to remember it wasn't all bad. HOWEVER, I still get po'd alot. There is too much I missed or could have done during that time which would make me a happier person now.
I've been more active here lately and I think it seems to help a bit.

Yeah! A Lost thread...
This is one of 2 shows I watch every week. Man last night was so good...I was pretty sure they were gonna dig up the grave, it's something I could see Sayid doing. Poor Henry, I wish he would give them a few answers to what's going on before they kill him. I think it's very possible that Jin had an affair with the hotel guy, you could see they really liked each other and I think he wanted her to stay...but of course we didn't get to see that far.
It's always a good Lost when I'm saying "Oh Sh$$"! And next week's gonna be new too!!!

Who do you love more?
by serendipity inmy uncle ocasionally complains about how my aunt loves her adult children more than him because she's always thinking about them, worrying about them and reaching out to them.
i think that's a surprising viewpoint because i thought that most mothers (and many fathers) love their children above all others.. do you think that's true?
should a parent love their children more than the spouse (or significant other)?

The love is completely different, but the intensity is the same.
I've got a 9-month old and I worry more about her than her pop for sure. She gets ALOT more of my attention than he does, but it could be because she's a baby and needs it more. But when she gets older, like going to school or out of the house older, I'll probably go crazy worrying about her 10 times more! Maybe it's because we feel more responsible and protective of our munchkins and grown men (most of them anyways) can take care of themselves.

Hindsight is 20/20: What were your signs?
by divejunkie inwhat i mean is now that you are out of the wt; do you ever think back at something you innocently said or did when you still believed or you were little that now feels like a sign that you would someday get out of the bullsh*t?
for me, growing up in the jw's, i feel there were signs of my "goat hairs" even way back then.
** even as a child, every saturday morning i would spend at least 10 or 15 minutes trying to figure out what to say to get out of going to field service .

Hmmmm...let's see....
...every month from the time I was baptised, I had less than 10 hours in fs. and usually never made it out at all
...for the last 3 years, I went back and forth in 3 different cong. so nobody would really know how many meetings I was missing
...study? study for the meetings? That was a brief highlighting of the required material for that day, the hardest part was picking out what color I wanted to use
....Could never seem to make friends with too many people, it was so much easier to be friends with worldlings

Spreading Discension while participating in the Theocratic Ministry School
by general inwere you part of the theocratic ministry school and if so did you ever try to subtley spread discension among the flock by attacking the watchtower doctrine with nuances when you were on your way out of the organization??
or did you use the opportunity to get self-righteous and ram some frivolous dribble down the throats of the audience perhaps out of revenge for all the mindless crap you had to listen to for the next hour afterwards..... did you ever know anyone that would get up on the platform and say " hello...goodbye" and just walk off...??.
curious had someone do that once...lol.

I just listened to Littletoe' s talk.
That's awesome! Man, I wish someone had the courage to do that when I was attending meetings. That would've been one talk to capture my attention.

How exciting! Congradulations!!
And he got the red hair....yeah!!
Both my bro and I were "doomed" to have red hair. From both sides of the family. I had my first baby last July and she's got dark hair just like her dad, I was bummed....BUT if you look at it in the sun, it really, really is a dark REDDISH brown!

"Reasonable Service!"
by Atlantis inare the righteous requirements the lord expects "reasonable?
not according to the watchtower!
this is just another example of how the watchtower deceives members into believing that what "they" expect of jws is actually what the lord expects.

JWs & Illegal/Undocumented Immigrants
by doinmypart inthere is legislation in the u.s. congress regarding illegal/undocumented immigrants.
part of the language deals with churches assisting illegal immigrants.. much of the increase in the u.s. branch is due to growth of spanish-speaking congregations, and a large part of these congregations are made up of illegal/undocumented immigrants.
a typical spanish congregation often needs help.

Thanks Blondie for putting up what the wts thinks.
This is one prime example of the wts printing "the right thing" yet underneath it all not following any of its own instruction. No one I met in 3 different spanish cong. tried to get the brothers to follow caesar's law.

That's a good question. I ended my stay in the truth in a spanish cong. and it didn't seem to phase anyone they were illegal. I think yesterday they took out the clause about people helping illegals would be a felony.
However, I don't think new, tougher laws, if they pass, would affect the spanish cong. in many ways. For one, the wts needs its dinero. If the people stayed here, then they would get more. But of the people were sent home, without good paying jobs, the amount would go way down...even if they worked in their home countries. Also, most of the new growth here is in the spanish cong. Can you imagine what the us statistics would look like if they left? Some may stay witnesses when they returned home, but I knew several who were witnesses while family back home was mostly catholic.
