they must have different rules for animals, however.
I believe it is firmly against JW belief to spank your monkey...

BLOOD @ tms tonight???
by Kudra ini am a newbie here- but have been reading a lot of the ex jw boards and websites for a while as a newly minted evil apostate :).
so i remember hearing -here or somewhere else, i can't remember, that tonight at the "theocratic ministry school" or "kingdom ministry school" (???
aah- i can't even remember if that is the name - i haven't gone to a meeting in ~ 4 years or so) they are going over some new information on the blood issue.

"one of the blood substitutes the HLC can suggest to doctors is strawberry Kool Aid"
HA! -not so far from the truth...
I actually went to the meeting to hear it last night (need to know what they'll do to my dear ol mum if she were to need a transfusion...) and a brother gave "an experience" of someone who actually transfused TAP WATER into someones blood stream successfully!!!!!!!
of course as all wise doctors know, the only reason ya transfuse anything into the bloodstream is to expand the volume of yer blood and you can use anything for that... ditchwater, day old coffee...
Also, because blood does not oxygenate for ~24 hours so transfusing blood is "next to worthless" if you're looking to increase oxygen or whatever.
to think of all the OTHER delightful words of truth that I have been missing out on...

oh, i also want to agree with willowmoon about addressing stuff to the "brothers". That would make me FUMING MAD. So were they, like, not talking to the 65% of the JWs that are female?! The "sisters" carry basically ALL the preaching load for the JWs.
I felt like walking out of the meetings when they started off their talks with "brothers we admonish you to... blah blah blah..." and saying- well, this OBVIOUSLY doesn't apply to ME!
ok- letting go of the anger... :)

Thank you all for the information.
Does anyone have a scan of the "old" blood letter that they tell the elders to "destroy"? Or maybe a reference to a thread here that discusses it- call me lazy but I only got ~ halfway through the 17 pages on the blood thread I was referenced to... I woiuld like to follow along with the old letter to see all the changes.
It is a hall that i've been to once last year cause I told my mom i'd go to the memorial. No one said a word to me. I cant remember if I was in pants or not. (versus a dress- i'm female)
Well, I'll probably go anyway to spy even though I've seen the scan of the letter...
Thanks again everyone and enjoy survivor island or whatever show that you enjoy tonight. i'll be watching a train-wreck. :)

Hi I am a newbie here- but have been reading a lot of the ex jw boards and websites for a while as a newly minted evil apostate :). I don't think it is "new light" but maybe a clarification on their stance...? Please -if someone knows could you reply? I am planning on attending to get the scoop first hand because if I can pick up some inconsistencies, about-faces or whatever I can use that first hand knowledge to confront my mom with. Also my sister who never bought into the JW thing as a kid (I did, hook line and sinker...) would like to know too. I just don't want to waste my Thursday night if there is nothing big going on tonight. Although it would be a kick to go through a meeting with the binders off, seeing it for what it is- haven't actually done that yet. Thank you thank you thank you. Kudra

I have a question about the blood video
by blindersoff induring the week of jan 30 at the service meeting, the society's video "a video that highlights an important medical trend" will be discussed using the 12 questions listed below.
does any one know if any of the information in this particular video is mis-quoted or mis-represented?
notice that none of these questions involve scriptures - only medical viewpoints.

Well, just from my 1 or 2 days of reading the big news post and other replies on this board, I can answer most of those "video questions (i.e. what have recent hospital studies revealed about blood... + what are the medical risks associated with blood transfusions... etc) from the blurb from the baylor institute. Kinda makes me want to show up a the KH and go for one last "comment".

Journal of Church and State: WT NO-BLOOD EXPOSE'
by AndersonsInfo in(baylor university, waco, tx) an essay entitled, "jehovah's witnesses, blood transfusions, and the tort of misrepresentation," found in the autumn issue of baylor universitys prestigious journal of church and state, published december 13, 2005, exposes the vulnerability of jehovahs witnesses religious organization to massive claims for compensation because of the religions misrepresentation of the medical risks of blood transfusions.
this milestone essay critically examines one of the religions main publications for teaching their children and new recruits about their blood beliefs, how can blood save your life?
the peer-reviewed essay details many misrepresentations of medical facts, which the religion partly relies on to support its blood prohibition, thus denying its members from making fully informed medical decisions.

Does this mean I can sue them for their misrepresentation of evolution/biology that caused me to be behind in my knowledge of science when I entered college?
I wish!!!
Man, 3 years wasted on a "certificate" at a trade school before I finally got a clue...

Well, this might not have that much of an effect on the r+f witnesses:
~What is the reason they all refuse blood?
NOT because of any medical reason but because they read "keep abstaining from blood" in the bible. -The medical reasons are just to put the blood issue in a better light to "worldly" folks, doctors, family etc.
This might come across as niether here nor there for most witnesses. It does not address the seat of their firm stance on the blood issue.

Barbara's bringing us out of the woodwork. My newly found apostate-mind thinks this is all pretty cool!
So- is this THE big news..?

it seems as if the issue has not yet been posted - for the actual address change the c in church and the s in state to capital letters. also, on my university search (we get free copies of all the online journals) i see the autumn issue has not yet been posted. rebecca
