A former JW could become president, cure cancer and bring about world peace and they wouldn't even acknowledge him/her. Let along say they are proud and admit to liking the person...

Tour de France winner bucked his religion
by MegaDude inlandis' mennonite hometown celebrates'we are disappointed with the lifestyle he lives, but i love him,' one says.
farmersville, pa. - as floyd landis crossed the tour de france finish line sunday, his devout mennonite parents were riding their own bicycles home from church.. paul and arlene landis were so confident their son would win the cyclings greatest race they didnt have to choose between going to church and watching it on tv at a neighbors house.. im glad we didnt have to make that choice.
church is very important to us, arlene landis said.

Keep it!
you look about 10 years younger with the hair and the beard than in your avatar.
I am such a sucker for a guy with a beard.
But I prefer your (present I assume) style to the more hippy shaggy OFG-style.
I'd like to see OFG with his hair combed and everything trimmed a little- but still keeping the beard and long hair.
Whew -you guys and your long hair and beards- ah do declaarh, it's gettin hot in here...

The Dystopian Novel
by daniel-p indystopia : 1) an imaginary place or state in which the condition of life is extremely bad, as from deprivation, oppression, or terror.
2) a work describing such a place or state.. .
during the past couple of months i have been reading a series of dystopian novels in which a carefully manufactured society is portrayed through the eyes of a protagonist who becomes increasingly aware of what is wrong.

NWT,
arr- Yeah Neuromancer... I always called it "Necromancer" and my BF (who gave it to me) would always get pissed off at that. And also at the fact that I didn't know what things like "deus ex machina" or the Gordian Knot referred to... Now I'm having feelings of "I am such a moron" deja vu...
Aaaaanyway, I know what you mean about the difference between BNW and 1984- BNW does have sort of a feeling that is harder to visualize as real, while 1984, you're there instantaneously. Maybe some folks just respond better to one writer's style. After all, reading their books is like having a conversation with them and everyone has people that it is easier to converse with.
I still plan on reading We, sometime in 2009 when I'm done with school... :(

I don't think I have EVER met a JW who had a bachellors. A couple started and then dropped out and a mere handful had Associates degrees.
But all you fine folk really impress me. Now I know where I'll go if I have questions about any of your fields. Watch out!
If I were going to start over I'd get a degree in the history of science. Right now I am reading a cool book on the history of (phi) the Golden Ratio.

Well, I'm off to bed. It's 1:30 in the morning here. Us decent folks have to get up early!
Later, all you aposta-lovelies.

if an atheist does something good...
by DannyBloem in.
if an atheist leads good life with high moral standards, because he choice to do so and thinks for logic it is a good thing, does it not mean much more then when a theist does the same, because his gods tells him to do it?

I've actually seen two trees fall in the forest. They make a lot of noise.
But probably just cause I was there. -

FMZ,
Were they recussitated via defibrillator?
Perhaps that or other similar emergency room machinery contributed to the watch problems.
What was the method of recussitation? This could play a big part. To die or almost die and then have your body start again is an enormous shock and stress to the system. There could be all sorts of electrical malfunctions that occur during that time of death/revival.
A friend of mine had a particularly horrific heart attack (in her 20s) and does not remember anything leading up to or after the incident. The stress managing parts of the brain blocked it out as it was such an overload on her system.
(not sure if that last anecdote actually contributed to any arguement either way...)
