  You know what- based on the degree actually meaning ANYTHING, the kids that have gone through the science-for-non-science-majors classes that I have TAed for are just a HAIR away from creation science degrees themselves. They cheat, lie, plagiarize, lie some more and want at LEAST a "B" for their efforts. They might as well have a creation science degree as a BA from any of the major universities (well, at least the U of A) it seems like. The sorority and fraternity kids are the worst of the lot.

  The professors really try to present meaningful material in an accessable manner- these kids aren't students, they are little jerks who think they need a degree for some reason or other or are there to party and snag a hot, potentially rich man or wife.

  They are rich, willfully ignorant brats who demand a degree handed to them on a platter. These are the morons who are running their dad's companies and going into managerial positions, subsequently making OUR lives hell when we inevitably have to deal with them in some way in our day-to-day.

  You wouldn't think it but I do like teaching- but sheesh, in some classes you may as well be reading out of a Swahili dictionary, for all the information the kids take from their time in class.

  Pitbulls- advice anyone?

  my husband just rescued a pitbull-mix puppy from living neglected under a hole in the stairwell of an apartment across the parking lot from his place.

  she had no tags and was unleashed- free-ranging in the parking lot.. i was sceptical at first as i have heard that pit bulls are very dog agressive.

  when i aked our vet about it (i have a black lab mix, 1.5 yrs, as well) she said that all the folks at that vet owned pits and as long as the puppy is well socialized and rained well she will be fine.. the puppy, butters, is already a little agressive- she fights to get her food before it is on the floor and she has growled at another big pit bull at petsmart when my husband took her there.. butters will be flying here (tucson) this evening.

  Virtually all of the dog people (people who I know that rescue dogs, have many dogs of their own), folks from the Humane Society and my vet (and her vet techs) have all recommended this type of dog as a very good dog to have.

  They are very friendly to people but their problem can be dog-agression. After speaking to my vet I feel much at rest about having Butters in my home. As I am getting her as a puppy there is an excellent opportunity to train her and to socialize her early on.

  For every story of pit bulls mauling kids there are stories of even spaniels doing it. I believe that you should be wary of any breed around a baby or young small child. I read of a story recently of a *Lab puppy* mauling a baby to death while it was in one of those hangy-bouncy chairs while the parents were out of the room. So...

  I will keep you posted. My other dog Rosie is my first priority and if Butters is aggressive towards her then Butters will need to go. I am glad that we have been able to save her thus far- my vet said that only *one* out of every 500 pit bulls that are given to Humane Society or animal control etc are saved. The rest are killed! They are also the most abused type of dog out there.

  Thanks for your thoughts- these dogs can be controversial. However the Rottweiler is the dog breed that attacks/kills the most. My dog Rosie is part Rottweiler and she is the most docile playful dog at the dog park. I really think that training has everything to do with the success of a dog.

  Butters will be flying here (Tucson) this evening. I am going to introduce her to my other dog Rosie on neutral territory (a park) and then taking them back to my house after they have gotten to know each other.

  I know that I need to feed my dog Rosie first and let Rosie intot he house first to establish their "pecking order" and I will be getting a book on pit bulls today.

  Any other advice?

  So they were talking about "the decades" 1981-1989...

  Where in the world do they get their numbers?? Seriously- what statistics do you think they were referring to? They have to have some trick up their sleeve cause a lot of dubs do these calculations ontheir own...
