  often we see pictures in books or on the net or even in jw magazines of what jesus may have looked like.

  i googled jesus and found these pictures of what he may have looked like.. here are a few pictures i saw that didn't match what i expected jesus to look like.

  Wow, lots of folks taking care of their kids in the rain.
  I went to a lovely party and, in the last 10 minutes managed to get completely irate at my friend and storm out on him. He said later (we sort of made up) that 3 of the biggest gossips in the department were watching and listening (this was an arguement of an extremely personal nature) and asked him about it after I made my most ungracious exit.

  climate change/global warming

  ok well this is one of those topics that's pretty much common knowledge.. the earth is warming, the ice is melting and sea levels are rising.. a) do you think we'll be able to take care of it before it becomes irreversible?.

  b) do you make decisions in your life that reflect a concern for this issue and/or other environmentalist issues?.

  i try to make sure we recycle and turn off what isn't being used.

  We set ourselves on the road to warming starting around 5000 y.a. when the increasing population of the earth started clearing large forested areas via burning, and timber felling and cultivating vast agricultural areas with rice etc. There is a cool paper on this by Ruddiman and was in Scientific American in an abbreviated form that was an easy read.
  Temperatures were expected to take a downward turn at that time (according to the glacial cycle averages for the last 2 million years) but instead turned back up. They've been steadily increasing with a cool period (1200-1850, depending where on earth you were) due to a number of things but yes to the volcanic activity too. And the highest temps on record are indeed in the past decade -when you quote record temps they need to be global or hemispheric averages, (not just single instances in one location) for them to be meaningful in the global warming context.
  In the paper by Ruddiman he found that the CO2 levels fell each time we had a massive drop in human population (Black plague, wiping out of the Native Americans, etc) Also, CO2 has been higher now than it has been for the past 650,000 years. Interesting.

  There *IS* a New Revelation Book!!!

  yes, the km lists the changes, but i went to service meeting last night, played dumb, and asked the lit servant what book would be studied when the bible/teach book is finished...

  i now have a new, crappy, perfect-bound softcover copy of the "2006 printing" of the revelation book--not "revision", not "revised edition", but "printing".

  the gall of these arrogant sacks at bethel, i tell ya....my housemate and i spent about two hours going through the old and the new side-by-side and, thus far, have found several flubs that contradict the changes made in the new book whilst leaving others on the same topics undone elsewhere.

  You HAVE to go to these studies and comment ONLY from the outdated version- work up a bumbling confused "Columbo"-type routine -just act like you don't get in and make them hash out the whole issue every time you comment from the old "light". If it's too out of character it might not work but I'm SURE you could do a little something like that for us. :)
  Or if that is too painful, just go to the bookstudies where there are changes in the discussion.

  just wanted to let you guys know that i might not be around as much as before.

  i've got a 15 unit load this semester, and it's already starting to bleed my free time.. and because i ain't got no good grammar, homewerk takes a loong time.

  Those gargantuan holes that people get in their ears can actually be sewn right up (for like, $150) and are not even noticable. Even the mid sized ones are not too noticable when they take their earrings out.
  
  I got a lip ring (middle, lower lip) and just replaced it with an amber gemstone stud. I like that one better. It's more "me" than the lip ring which was sorta more along the lines of what a voluptuous-50's-era-punk- looking girl would have (not quite my style...).

  Evolution still bugs me

  i know there are a lot of threads on evolution and creation and i've read a few here and there.

  how can complex systems arise of themselves in the face of entropy?

  one evolutionist book i read used snowflakes to show this is possible.

  Entropy happens in a closed system- The earth- or the solar system, for that matter is NOT a closed system- the earth constantly is getting energy input from the sun.
  
  
  Many ID-ers misuse the term entropy as it applies to evolution on earth. An easy to understand website that deals (I think) with entropy is talk.origins which you have probably discovered if you have been perusing the id-evolution "debate".
