I'm so surprised they stayed and listened to all that. Back in the day I would have "politely excused myself from the situation".

Service talk on changes at Bethel, layoffs, spirit of urgency
by truthseeker inlast week an elder who has served in bethel gave the service meeting talk, which referred to the front page of the sep km (which i don't yet have) on the governing body's letter to all publishers.. he started by saying that "drastic times call for drastic measures" - bethel was going through periods of rapid change.. he referred to a symposium given by brother jaracz and splane last december, where they tried to brush off the layoffs saying everyone had to keep "up with jehovah's celestial chariot".
bethelites were being reassigned to the field, and this would be difficult for them.
some in bethel who were being reassigned had been there 20 or 30 years.

I think they mean
"Machines can't demand a paycheck (or health benefits or whatever) only people do that". -

If the world's population were reduced to 100, it would look something like
by What-A-Coincidence inhttp://www.miniature-earth.com/.
the idea of reducing the world?s population to a community of only 100 people is very useful and important.
it makes us easily understand the differences in the world.. there are many types of reports that use the earth?s population reduced to 100 people, especially in the internet.

That was really fantastic-
The numbers fell out differently that I thought they would.
Also, I thought it would have noted that "90 people think George W Bush is a dunm f*&k".
;) (just kidding) -

another evolution thread...
by anakolouthos ini've been scanning thru geronimo's recent thread on evolution, & have really enjoyed reading all the fascinating responses.
i was going to post in there, but was worried it might get buried.
many may not know me here, as i've barely posted, but in a nutshell, i'm still in the org (somewhat trapped at the moment) but consider myself a christian with somewhat leftish leanings.

Wow, a lot of work retyping a 20 pg document (small print at that!).
How about giving us a brief synopsis while we're all here *salivating* for it?
I didn't even know of the existence of this letter- what's it about?

Baptisms (WT legal contract) null and void
by Sacchiel inis there any truth that people under the age of eighteen cannot be held under a legal contract (which is what the wt views baptism as, a legally binding document to the society)?
the result would be that individual cannot be disfellowshiped since that person was underage and above all, never even signed a document.
is this applicable in the us at least?.
