You might think that it is sort of common for a group of people to all know someone who was molested.
BUT all of the people that we know who are molested belong to the SAME group. I think that if I got together with a group of, say, my running friends, we would all know a couple of people who had been molested. But they would be from totally disparate groups- some we would know from grade school, some from work, some we met at a bar, etc.
It would be beyond weird if ALL the people we knew that were molested were part of and were molested BY the VERY SAME group. Which is the deal here.
For example, there would be no way that if I got a large group of grad students from my school together we could come up with a large number of people that were ALL molested by professors or workers at the university...
Hope I got that point across clearly...?
-K
p.s. the only people that I know who were molested belong to the JWs. Pretty f-n' pathetic for the only group on earth that has religious truth...

Arguing on the Internet
by daniel-p inmost threads on jwd have little to do with the jw's, and more often than not, the most popular ones are political and philisophical diatribes, full of back-and-forth rhetoric that rarely comes to any meaningful and productive outcome.
most of the issues are repeats, the same arguments over and over, often with the same exact participants.
so how does it affect you?

Actually I remember one time I "got into it" with the poster FMZ about near death experiences (I being the extreme skeptic) we slung a couple of sorta-insults but actually ended up having a good interchange and I feel I kind of gained a "friend" as much as one can really do so on the internet.
That conversation was actully a productive one because I think we both changed our view a little and gave credit to the other poster's opinion.
So, have a good night daniel-p, I have to go get "intensely invested" in some journal articles on atmospheric circulation patterns... -

There are certain ones that seem to be perennial here: evolution, climate change, liberal/conservative and whether or not god exists.
Some of those I am interested in. I usually check to see who the posters are and get involved based on that... some posters who are intensely invested in some of these issues just spew rhetoric or continually repeat their party line or refuse to use any amount of reason in their arguements, so there is no real "discussion".
Other times there is definitely some good information disseminated.
When I see people just getting riled up and only caring about getting THEIR point across I usually go find something else to do.

Mmm. I think I need some "encouragement" to keep plowing through the first one (CoC). I find his style of writing to be sort of poor... (sorry guys!)
On the other hand I found the actual content to be extremely illuminating. It is just pretty painful to read. Sometimes his sentence structure borders on "difficult to understand"...
Well, maybe it is just me because everybody else here raves about it so. I do truely appreciate what a contribution ot our collective cause that book is. It has helped many escape from the lie we were all mired in.
I guess I'll just have another go at it.

Did you get the new tract?
by kid-A injust wanted to run an informal poll to see how "effective" or hopelessly "ineffective" the borg tract assimilation drive has been.. i for one, have not received the tract, and i live in densely populated development.
did anybody get it left in their doors/mailboxes?.

Kid-A:
Assuming that the witnesses have the truth and Jehovah is directing the tract work, it would make sense that apostates would NOT be receiving the new tract.

Blow up at an elder lately?
by Dune ini consider myself to be an extremely tolerant person.
i'm one of those people that are extremely yielding, never get into confrontations and things of that sort.. i've been fading for about two months but instead of being smart like everyone else on the board and doing it gradually, i simply just dropped off the face of the earth (by witness standards) and just focused on school and work.. theres one elder that has been calling my family asking about my whereabouts, the times i'm home, my cell # and all the good stuff.
i wake up at 6:30 in the morning to the guy calling me, i dont bother picking up but he leaves a message.

"Let's Get Busy with the Word"???
Smell Southern baptist-y to me... Perhaps they are trying to appeal to that demographic???
Whatever it is, it doesn't sound GB-approved.
