Then stop judging him. If what he or anyone else that chooses body modification for themselves clashes with your sense of esthetics, morality, normalcy, mental health, then walk on by. Not your prob. I think the whole concept of "Normal" is a snare and a racket. In Richie's pictures he's so damn happy you can feel it coming off the screen, and it's not your place to pass judgement on that. If it's not your thing, groovy...I appreciate differences in opinion...but it's no one's place to force your window view on life onto others. That's where the joy of livinig is for crying out loud!
I didn't start getting my tattoos till i was 28 years old...and I find that I have met SO many more people because of it. Great convo starters, that's for sure. Do what you want as long as it harms none. Other than that sod off. He's doing it for him. I really HATE it when people say I have my tattoos for other people. Bollocks to that! They mean something to ME...I don't give a rats arse if you get em or if you like em, and if you choose to judge someone by their tongue or their ears then that's your problem.
Richie is so much more of an eloquent writer than I, and I really think he handled the nay-sayers regally.
My final answer for those who think it's faddish or 'what will you do later on in life?' Ya'll...when we're 80, (if we ever reach 80)...hate to say it but we're gonna look like hell.
I really don't care if my geisha tattoo becames a persian rug, or my flying cats turn into dragging turtles. They're my experiences, and my memories and they also in time evolve and change...maybe blur and fade. They're my notches on the totem pole of life.
I celebrate your notches, Richie...

Richie Rich, hey...over here...
by wanderlustguy ini was going to reply to you on the thread which should be now known as the longest running tattoo debate on the internet.. but...i didn't want this to get lost in the pissing contest so i put it on it's own topic for you.
you need to know something and i wanted to tell you in public.
no matter what, you can know something right now.

Not sure what precipitated this thread...I'm now going to do some 'heavy' reading, but I wanted to say one thing...I've read so many of Richie's threads and have chatted with him briefly a few times in a group environ. We've only got this one life to live, and every time I read his continuing posts on his life and see how much he's enjoying being himself and fulfilling the needs of his soul, I can't help but grin.
You keep up the good work for yourself. Be happy, Spread Joy, Live life, and love your girl. If people want to criticise...all I say is "Haters." and with a rasberry too.
They're just jealous of the peep, man.

Do tattoos hurt?
by coolhandluke inyes they do and i'm looking forward to it.
i tracked down the guy who started some work on my back and i'm going to finish part of it this weekend.
the tat started as a take on ying and yang and the idea that things come full circle.

yes they hurt. :)
the one on my back REALLY hurt...but it only got very painful when he was tattooing on top of my spine...you can see some of my tats on the Richmond apostafest thread. the ones on my arm didn't hurt much at all...(a doable pain), and the one on my upper thigh only started to get really tender the higher up he went. :)
I LOVE THEM. I'm in the process of getting a half sleeve on my left arm right now...and the tat on the back there is RIGHTEOUS, Cool! Very cool idea. :) I love aisian art...the left arm is going to be a sleeve of aisan art...I also think the concept of balance is a very good concept for tattoo designs. Most excellent. :)
I guess that says something of my mental health, but i like the pain...after about the first fifteen minutes of it, it slakes off and sorta becomes a high for me...ahh...lovely adrenaline. :)

water to wine---trick revealed
by tula inan ethnobotanist in santa cruz, california, thinks jesus was munching magic mushrooms at the last supper.
clark heinrich says man has enjoyed the psychedelic effects of mushrooms since thousands of years before christ -- and figured the king of kings probably turned on as well.
in fact, he thinks jesus was high on a psychedelic 'shroom known as "fly agaric" which was hailed for its taste as well as its trips.

you know...this shines a whole new light on the construction and compilation of the bible versus/books/etc.
I feel that it would make a WHOLE LOT more sense if we were all trippin balls when we were reading it, IMHO. ;)

ABSOLUTELY.
Only you can help yourself. Support groups, therapy, meds, a good cuppa with a friend...they can only put before you all the tools. It's up to you to take it the next step.
