The significance of this image...
by Awakened07 inthey say a picture is worth a thousand words.. .
to me, the picture posted below is one of the - if not the - most significant images i've seen so far in my life.
as i was growing up (a jw), i was taught that the universe was in perfect harmony.

What's running through the grapevine
by forsharry inso i was talking with an girlfriend that i had (actually the only friend i had in 'the truth').
we have recently reconnected, and she's still on the fence as to whether or not to go back into the org.
however, her aunt, an elder's wife and all-around snot rocket, let her know what was going on in the truth (i'm guessing to get her to come back full-time cause 'look at all that's happening, and it's the end!

early 90's ....as in 1990s.
We were so close! 1994 I remember striking a particularly strong chord in me. We just KNEW that armegeddon was coming anytime! I was TERRIFIED!
I never understood that...that's something that always bothered me to when I was in...this joyous anticipation for the complete destruction of humanity as we know it. but you all know as well as I, since you all are now looking at life from both sides of the coin that most of the people we interact with are wholesome, good, loving people that just want happiness for themselves and those around them. How can anyone be excited about the 'potential' destruction of all these people? We say "I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy." When we read or witness some kind of atrocity that one can inflict upon another...how can we say "Yeah God! Kill em all!" when we're disgusted by comparison a very minute act of one person hurting another? I never looked forward to Armegedon. I was terrified...absolutely terrified of the potentiality of it.
when I read what Muffy* was saying, it set my teeth on edge all over again.

I was surprised as well to see that 'spirit' still so strong with them as well. That's why I wanted to post it...again I'm not sure if it's just this woman's take on what's being told to them from the podium or whether it's a more far-reaching message that's spreading in the congregations.

I like to think that I am the founder of my own religion. I'm the Pope, the Big Cheese, the CEO. I believe what I believe, no one has to agree with me or even understand me, but the fact that some people do is nice (either that or it means we're all screwed. ;)
"You can't get divorced! It's against the Catholic Relgion." "Fine then...I'll start a new religion. And We will call it...the Psychotic Bastard Relgion." "How about Church of England?" "Church of England it is."
Joking aside...Do what ye will, an it harm none is what I try very hard to live by. The golden rule is in most 'organized' religions...I just choose to practice the most important rule without all the trappings of the people.

So I was talking with an girlfriend that I had (actually the only friend I had in 'the truth'). We have recently reconnected, and she's still on the fence as to whether or not to go back into the org. However, her aunt, an elder's wife and all-around snot rocket, let her know what was going on in the truth (I'm guessing to get her to come back full-time cause 'look at all that's happening, and it's the end!' - which reminds me of early 90s, personally. This is what she wrote me (I know some of it has already been discussed on this board...but the sending home of the B-lites is a new one to me.) anyway...enjoy! :)
Muffy* was telling me recently that they have recently made almost half of the population of Bethel go home and spend as much time as possible in the preaching work...thats it...they are only letting people stay on a need basis. Starting next year they are going to only print one Awake a month and two Watchtowers - one for the public and one only for JW's. Also, they have upped their rescue efforts and set up HUB's especially in the gulf coast and people from all over have come down and rebuilt houses and set up new congregations... Muffy is saying that they are preparing for Armageddon by orgainizing this relief work because Armageddon will be the biggest natural disaster ever! I don't know...maybe its all a scare tactic.
*The name has been changed...cause I felt like it. ;)
anyway...my response was rather a massive thing. Hope I don't scare her. :/

Doritos are the devil!
Wasn't it George Carlin who talked about there being some kind of time warp around cookies, so that when you open the box, you enter a fugue state as time bends around said cookies, and time only is restored once the cookies have been eating, leaving you with only an empty box and crumbs all over you. :)
Oreos are right up there too!
what takes the cake though? Dunkin Donuts Munchkins...since they're little balls of doughy goodness, and poppable...they are inherently evil.

What is your personal definition of evil?
by fedorE inhow do you see evil in general?
recently a book i came across people of the lie by a well known psychologist m. scott peck discussed evil and evil in some of his patients.
to him any harm whatsoever inflicted on another person is evil and a mental illness that can be cured.

people who are intolerant of actions/beliefs/lifestyles of others.
Do what ye will, an it harm none.
Love one another.
Treat others as you would treat yourself.
anyone who chooses to not lead their lives but such simplistic (yet powerful!) precepts to me are evil.

I was in program training with military personnel and contractors in the Hampton Roads area. I'm assuming after the plane it the Pentagon (we were unaware of any of the WTC towers being hit being in a secure comp. lab), everyone's pagers went nuts and we were forced to break for a few minutes so everyone could check in with their superiors and such. Half the training class had to leave immidiately to report back to base, and then everything began to lockdown. (I worked as a graphic designer in contract to the majority of the military base papers in the region.)
For awhile there was a huge fear that we (as in Norfolk) could be a target as well because of the concentration of military bases in the area and the largest navy base, very limited ways to get in and out of the city (underwater tunnels)...but thankfully that fear was alleviated rather quickly once all of the flights had been grounded and/or accounted for.

"Let's Give them Something to Talk About" - Bonnie Raitt
I got chewed out in the car by my dad for singing along with that song.
(I was also in All-State Choir in New Jersery during one of the 'lulls' in jehovah witness strict adherence - so as background...I LOVE to sing. I never sang in the car with family in it after that.)
