Okay, on a funny note. Does said cat make noises when going along the kitchen floor? Could the next step be tap dancing or clogging perhaps? or maybe marracas? :) I think any kitty would look hot wearing a belly dancing costume, and i'm sure the other cats would agree as they're chasing after said tinkling and jingling feline.

mutilation is considered something done to an animal that has no benefit to itself. declawing is done out of the convenience for the human and not the animal.
I'm not judging anyone for declaw. I didn't mean to come across as condeming anyone who did it to their animals. I'm just calling a spade a spade here.
Declawing (onychectomy) is performed under general anesthesia and consists of surgical removal of the nail bed (basically the last joint). The cat's claw is not a nail as is a human fingernail, it is part of the last bone (distal phalanx) in the cat's toe. Contrary to most people's understanding, declawing consists of amputating not just the claws, but the whole phalanx (up to the joint), including bones, ligaments, and tendons! To remove the claw, the bone, nerve, joint capsule, collateral ligaments, and the extensor and flexor tendons must all be amputated. Thus declawing is not a “simple”, single surgery but 10 separate, painful amputations of the third phalanx up to the last joint of each toe. A graphic comparison in human terms would be the cutting off of a person's finger at the last joint of each finger.
I do work with a local cat rescue group where we are a no kill/no declaw organization. The spay/neuter program has greatly helped the health of our feral colonies...we are no longer seeing anemic, overtaxed females, we're not seeing kittens being killed due to simple viral infections, because there are no extra kittens, and the males and females both are in general better health because there's more food available to them and they're not kitten making machines. Is it a hysterectomy/castration? Yes. Does it benefit the cats' health and well-being? Yes. They will not come down with cancers that non neutered/spayed animals can become afflicted with. They live longer, healthier lives. 10-12 million dogs and cats are euthanized each year in the US alone. Too many pets and not enough owners. Spaying/neutering prevents unwanted litters and homelessness.
Again, perhaps fine line, but it is to the benefit of the animal to spay/neuter.
And now back to the subject! :)
Question on the claw caps...has your cat started chewing or biting at them? Has she shown any type of discomfort? How easy is it going to be to get the glued buggers off and reapply? I'm curious...I've seen these things before and figure to some it might be of great benefit, but i don't know all that much about them.

Declawing is mutilation, plain and simple. It is, as jgnat said, taking snippers and clipping back the joint to the first knuckle. You are effectively making your cat a club-foot. Not only that, but it can in cases change the entire personality of the cat, making it more prone to not using the litterbox, being antisocial and aggressive (i'm not saying all cases...). Not to mentional the medical problems that can insue afterwards...infection (I had to have one of my cat's two 'fingers' amputated completely because of gangrene), arthritis, damaged pads.
I've heard good and bad about the caps...they're like fake nails so they grow out, which means you'll have to pull them off eventually and clip the nail back. I don't know how willing your cat's gonna be about that, but if it's docile then it's a decent solution. I personally just clip my cats' claws. And do a lot of yelling sometimes. But they love the cardboard scratching boards a lot...they're getting to be pretty faithful at using that...well that and the carpet on the stairs. I just wish they would alternate, cause one stair at a time is becoming obliterated. ;)

Huge shock!
by Crumpet ini just got a major shock.
i can't believe the new levels of cruelty possible within families who are jws.. a friend on this board who i've known since i was a baby practically has managed to get me a picture of my little sister who i haven't seen for 8 years - the one who i've mentioned my dad said was working on the bethel quick build team.
the one who i've described my fears that she and my younger sister are staying single until armageddon.

Although the vindictive, bitchy part of me says NO! GO DOWN IN A BLAZE OF GLORY! (with lightning bolts) I do BEGRUDGINGLY think that discretion is the better part of valor.

I'm glad you were able to experience that.
Even though I don't believe, I went with a friend to a catholic mass one day...it was after my mother had a serious stroke and i was very depressed (this was before the meds.) I think it was so that my friend could watch over me to be honest...but they did something I was blown away by...the priest began a prayer, and then parishoners chimed in, and my friend standing next to me piped up, "And please, pray for Hope's mother who recently suffered a stroke, pray that she recovers and to pray for continued strength for her family during this difficult time." I couldn't help it. I started to sob. Here were people saying amen to a personal plea...the guy standing next to me gave me a hug.
That's how it should be. if people are going to buy the whole god is love, blah blah blah stuff of the bible, then it should show in their deeds and in their works. I'm glad you were able to experience a loving call versus a dubaroo court. Very nice experience indeed!

I just had a vision of a duct tape enshrouded box and had to laugh. :)
I understand...I had my first christmas a few years ago too...I had to ask a friend to teach me how to wrap a present...she looked at me like I was some kind of freak of nature. Which I am. I'm quite fond of the abstract wrapping...not exactly crisp and sure...and tape edges and cat fur everywhere...but it's what's inside that counts. :)

How did you overcome the allure of Paradise? Or have you?
by M.J. ini think the biggest reason someone maintains their faith in the wts is because the wts is the "ticket" to paradise earth.. how did you deal with the prospect that the "ticket" salesmen weren't totally reliable?.
did it cause you to let go of your hope in paradise earth?
did it redirect it to another hope?.

I've actually had the wonderous opportunity to visit many places around the globe. I see the paradise everyday in the wonders that surround me. It's already here. It's not the world that has to change...it's just us.
For me, I've overcome the 'allure' of the forever paradise. Can you just imagine living forever in the dubset? I always felt that if I was happy all the time, I wouldn't appreciate being happy. Not that I enjoy trials or tribulations but it does make you keenly aware of the happy times you've lived as well.
I don't know...I guess now I've learned to treat every moment as precious...because I only have so many more moments to go before oblivion. Make the time you have count. Find paradise in your own ways and in your own places.

muahahaha! and then soon, global domination will be mine! It's all part of my dastardly plan...
and now back to your regularly scheduled program.
I personally rejoice at this information. It is truly survival of the fittest! Social darwinism is again at work in the bOrg.
