  Barbara specifically said "lied," so I'm putting my money on some type of money scandal. I think it would be quite a blow to the average JW if they found out for sure that the WTS covered up some mismanagement of funds.

  Very good point. There can be little or no literary excellence when articles are passed through a committee machine. The only things left are recycled statements sprinkled with the very occasional change in doctrine. There is little said of true importance or weight, but at least control over what is written is maintained. It reminds me of a good novel that can be torn to shreds once a studio's 100 different screenwriters have their go at it.

  Yes, I agree. Preferably it would be headlines news on TV and Newspapers, not the Internet. The R&F need to hear it from different sources.

  Likely, the ones who originally wrote those idiot-like statements about 1975, college, etc., are long gone now, or are in other departments. It may even be an inside jab by the new up-and-comers to the old fogies who constantly stuck their foot in their mouth. You can tell the WT and Awake writers are afraid to state anything about what to expect for the future anymore - thus lowering their articles to new levels of banality.
  
  What continues to amaze me is the enormous body of words that the FDS has built up. Stacks upon stacks of interpretations, denunciations, proclamations, ruminations, and etcetera that, just due to the sheer amount of writers and words written, are bound to contradict themselves in one way or another. Awfully remeniscent of the Talmud and related publications built up by generations of pharisaical authorities.

  It really depends on what the news is. Since this post was started in scandals/coverups, its going to be hard for me to bring it up with my friends and family. If it was a doctrinal change, we could all talk about it freely. But JW's are taught to be suspicious of any negative news directed toward the WTS, in fact, to not listen to it at all. So how do I bring it up (whatever it may be) to my ultra-zealot family without looking like an apostate whereupon I would lose credibility and also experience a shit-storm of trouble?

  I'm speculating that this has something to do with the mismanagement of funds in some way connected to donations for hurricane Katrina.

  What part made you the most nauseous? Did you read it all the way through before you got nauseated? Real men don't vomit they puke!
  
  At first I thought various - what I considered to be - stereotypical comments were made in jest... then I realized they were relatively serious. I'm sorry, stuff like this just turns me off. Didn't mean to ruin anyone's fun.
