Higher Education
by XBEHERE inhello all...just cant stay away from you...hehe .
at our recent co visit, at the elder/ms meeting where co goes over a branch approved outline with us he spent 10 min on the subheading "avoid snares of pursuing higher education"...something like that, my notes are at home but you get the gist.
he essentially spent the time bashing university education citing among other things that a full 30% that go to college dont find employment in the field that they studied in.

Welcome ((((((2SparrowsPenny))))))
Yes, we are all waiting eagerly for our Big News. I can't seem to get anything done - just listen to some Miles and drink more coffee - it's all I can do. -

Well, by the time our CO comes around I should be on my way out - and certainly not serving anymore. I just can't take it anymore - these words spewing out of their mouth - its disgusting, misleading, ignorant... I just can't take it any longer.

So I was at the meeting today (no I haven't left yet) sitting through the boring talk the brother was giving about how awful the world is and how happy we are to be in the truth and I was looking around me wondering who would leave over what issue. I was dissapointed to realize that I can't imagine many people ('smart' or not) leaving over anything which we would call "Big News."
What is big news to us is big because we see a lot of the problems and are looking at things from the outside - a much more objective view. And, in that sense, it is still subjective, because we see Big News as we want to see it - as damaging to the Society - not as the average JW sees it - as a comfirmation of their belief that Satan has specifically designed this to draw the faithless ones out.
I'm afraid that no matter what the Big News it, it's not going to be big enough to really shake things up. If the big news requires extensive activism, it will just look like a carefully plotted campaign by the anti-christ.
As long as there is some shred of basis for faith left among the R&F they will not leave over this. They will leave of their own volition, due to some circumstance in their own life that changes their views, not from some scandal brought on to sift the chaff from the grain. -

Talking about a person, at their funeral, "how taboo!"
by free2beme ini went to a funeral yesterday and they did something you never saw at a witness memorial, and it is so refreshing to me when this is done.
well they actually mentioned the person who died.
they talked about their life, their family and even some fun stories about what they did in this life.

Yes, I think the personal/impersonal ratio of the memorial outline is, and has been, quite low for a while. This is just one more heartless and ignorant thing the WTS does. They are really shooting themselves in the foot with this since they are removing one of the most basic functions of religion - to help people cope with death and provide a forum for grieving. Instead, they turn it into Resurrection Hope 101.

Let's Be Honest!!!!!! (For Men)
by Golf inok, all you male ex/jws what do you think of women now!
barbara is giving us some inside information about the org and this comes from a women, on top of that!!!!!!!
do you have the moxie to admit you frown/ed on women?
-
daniel-p
The patriarchal structure of the Organization has always been a big turn off to me. Having women "in their place" is an insult, not only to women, but to men as well. It's basically saying that men feel threatened by female influence. I'm not saying a lot of men arn't threatened by that, but at least the mature, reasonably inteligent ones are not (of course, it also depends on ones' upbringing). There is absolutely no evidence to support the Apostle Paul's directive that women are inherently less capable of administration and oversight. I have had the experience of working for several women in the past and while their personalites are as varied as their male counterparts, they are on the whole more understanding, reasonable, and communicative. In my line of of work and studies these qualities are paramount. On average, men are more egotistic which does not lend itself well with group work. There should always be more emphasis put on the personality traits of an individual, not sex.

"The speaker talked about the deceased and the family in both cases. In once case, the woman who died had asked the speaker to read a letter about her family members and friends. When he was done, there wasn't a dry eye in the place."
Then this speaker was blatantly disregarding the Society's direction for memorial talks. The outline specifically states that comments about the person should be kept at a minimum and the Bible-based hope of ressurection be forefront.
