Why do women make up the majority?
by daniel-p ini want to pose what is to me an interesting question: .
why is there a preponderance of women in religion?
i think we all agree that females do make up the majority of pretty much every religion, including jw's, but why?

Here's a real shocker: I probably wouldn't know the proper stance to hold a rifle or handgun, and I would never be able to hunt. I like animals too much - especially furry little ones. I adore kittens and I enjoy watching sea otters play in the ocean. With all this in mind though, I have an abundance of hair on my chest, have a masculine physique and the testosterone level to match. Dear Abbey: What's wrong with me??

"Just look what is required of a man to remain in the Watchtower Society. He has to meekly submit to the Alpha males in the congregation, submitting his balls in a little paper bag. If he keeps this up for five years or ten, or if daddy is an elder, he gets to do the same to the next set of converts. And how is he rewarded for being top dog in the Kingdom Hall? He gets to take a verbal lashing from his CO on a regular basis. Talk about whipped.
It's not just the JW's. I see this trend in most churches in the western world. It's because religion in the western world has gone all soft and girly. There's Sunday School and Bake Sales and knitting bees, all run by women. Popular groups like "Promise Keepers" and Christian Bikers are an attempt to restore a manly-man role in the church."
Janet, great post. It made me laugh. I realize now that everything I have done in the congregation is in order to avoid having to submit my balls in a little paper bag. I've learned that I can be cooperative without having to constantly express my humility. I have embraced my ambition. When I go to the meetings and look around from my seat I see a bunch of people with blank looks on their faces, listening to talks on "how to pause," hearing dry demonstrations of how to place the magazines at a door "oh well thank you so much of course I will read them this is bullshit" slipping out of their mouths, reading paragraphs that admonish them to all trust in the paragraph, and so on. Its enough to make me go down and apply for the Masonic Lodge. Or whatever happened to the IOOF? We are all about the social aspects of religion anyway... thats all everyone comes for - is to see their friends and talk before and after the meeting. THe meetings might as well be conducted by machines - its so 'by wrote' and absurdedly superficial.
For all the rest of you - I really don't know what the discussion is all about... I was just asking why women seem to be more prevelent in religion - not asking about role reversals, that has little to do with the question. Specifically, how I can understand why attending meetings and stuff is so important to my wife with her low self-esteem. But I think I got enough to work with, thanks for your responses.
Remember, arguing on the Internet is like running in the Special Olympics, even if you win your'e still retarded! -

"religion is about control and quite a few men like to control women and quite a few women deep dwon desire to be controlled by men"
"...and he will dominate you."
Women, do you think there is any relevancy to this? If so, why is it that (some) women like to be dominated in the religious framework? -

Justitia,
Interesting point....
In my wife's case I think it is a combination of what you said, but also an emotional experience. Its like she depends on going to the meetings just so she can be reminded she's not good enough. Whenever she thinks about the ministry she gets all depressed because she knows she's not doing "what she should." I don't know how to help her since if I say anything about it she will think I am trying to destroy her faith and throw up walls. I try to be accepting and unconditional in my love but it never seems to make any difference. Sometimes it feels as if she would rather be browbeaten by a domineering egotistical JW husband than to be with me. -

Jourles,
It depends what kind of college it is. The college I go to offers more technical degrees like engineering, architecture, etc. and males are the majority like 55%.
I am pretty sure that women are the majority in just about any religion... my question is why? -

I am asking this question with a view to possibly helping my wife who is still all wrapped up in the jdub mindset. -

"Deliverance at Hand" District Convention Invitation
by Elsewhere intruthsetsonefree has provided spiritual food at the proper time by emailing me these scans.... this is the little hand-bill invitation for the next district convention that we've been hearing about.
considering the fact that most jws never actually read such things before handing them out, i suspect that many people will be given these things but never actually told when and where the convention will be held!
on the back it says: "the local congregation of jehovahs witnesses invites you to attend the convention that will be held at the time and location shown here.

So I guess everyone is on a septic system in the new world. Nevermind that the natural inclination of our species is to group together in small towns or even big cities. It seems that in the New World we are to maintain an even distance between all houses, perhaps a radius of 900 feet. This will ensure that civilization will not advance since every family will be self-reliant, having to do all work and growing of food apart from everyone else. There could never be any systems of economy - for that would create some medium of currency!!! And we all know the love of money was the root of all evil in the Old World....

inactive J.W.'s- R they witnesses or not?
by Chico86 inare inactive j.w.s still considered j.w.s or as having left the truth?
i get confused because some people talk about family members who are inactive, but say that they are not in the truth.

Technically, they are. But for all purposes, they may not be considered JW's any longer because they may be living a "wordly" life yet have not been df'd for some reason. It's just sort of one of those things where you'd have to know the situation to really give an answer. But to answer your question specifically, yes they are considered JW's since they have no been disfellowshipped.
