One of my most favorite scenes is when Cartman goes door-to-door as a Blainetoligist (the magician David Blaine) and talks to an old woman about how Blaintology has changed his life and tries to get her to buy some tickets to the show. Priceless.

Well, I suppose there is joy in coming closer to peace within oneself... for years I sought happiness in the organization, but now I just want peace within myself.

Which annual JW event did you dislike the most?
by jambon1 ini actually never liked the memorial.
it was`nt a very spiritual occasion at all really.
i hated feeling guilty about not doing the scheduled bible reading.

I hated the Special Assembly days because we had to drive 2.5 hours each way to get to the assembly hall, which in itself is exhausting, but also sit for 8 hours hearing blithering nonsense which we could have gotten back at our own Kingdom Halls. What made them so "special"? They wern't special, they were regular, typical, boring, wasteful gatherings. Why not just combine the special assembly days into the circuit assmeblies? I guess it just highlighted why I hated assemblies and conventions in the first place - hearing a bunch of stuff you could just as easily hear at any congregation, but you have to pay for it with hotels, restaurants, and time away from work.

Special Talk - Is God still in control?
by ajayboy inspecial talk - is god still in control?
does anyone have an effective illustration or experience for this talk?
regards ajayboy

Moshe, great post. First of all, the question of "is God in control" is absurdedly stupid for a person of faith. Second, the question is absurdedly stupid to a person without faith.
greendawn:
"It's sad that many humans instead of seeing a creator in the world around us from the minute atoms to the gigantic galaxies they see in them the blind force of chance."
Why does this Creator use the blind force of chance to do his purported will? It is not sad for us to see beyond the typical Judeo/Christian god... fiath is what's sad. Faith is the root of all evil. -

Made-Up Rules Dubs Try To Impose On Each Other
by calico inthis is in reference to the thread about dubs not having pets.
although, not a rule from the borg there are ones who would say you should not have pets.
can you think of other silly made-up rules that someone tried to impose on you?

"The real kicker to me is, "biblical" circumcision is NOT the same type of thing. It was a VERY different type of circumcising, not like they do today in hospitals."
Err... could you explain this to me in fuller detail? How could it be that much different?

One of the silliest made-up rules: You can't date until you are "ready" to get married. Back in dubland it made all the sense in the world to me - but the fact is, "readiness" of marraige is impossible to predict, since readiness lies with the emotional and mental maturity of a person, something that often cannot be seen until they get to know someone in a romantic setting. I am very empathitec towards JW's who try to date someone quietly and nonchalantly, trying to avoid the undue gossip, and scrutiny that is so common in the organization.

Religions that do not go to war.
by jwfacts inmany jw's seem to believe they are the only pacifist religion that does not go to war.
here is a list of others that i found on wikipedia.
other religions that do not participate in war are the church of the brethren, mennonites and society of friends, amish, hutterites, and others in the anabaptist tradition, doukhobors, molokans, bruderhof communities, schwenkfelders, moravians many groups of brethren, and many groups within the pentecostal movement.

A lot of JW's have a double standard when it comes to political nuetrality. They say they do not go to war, but many of them have propaganda imbedded into their minds from watching too much TV about other nations and why war can be justified. The true spirit of pacifism is lost among their Western affluenza.

While I find it hard to believe his story about stealing money from the donation boxes, it would be super easy to do. Just offer to help out the account's servant - he's always looking for an extra person to sign the reciept, and while he's checking the other boxes slip a 20 in your pocket. Heh heh. A regular Judas in the making....

How many partook in 1935?--BIG discrepancy in the WTS numbers
by M.J. inin a 1996 questions from readers, the watchtower reported the following regarding the number of partakers in 1935: .
w96 8/15 p. 31 questions from readers ***.
the facts over the decades reflect both the completion of the calling of the anointed and jehovahs blessing on the growing "great crowd," who hope to survive "the great tribulation.

This is hilarious. It would be great to have a larger pdf file of that, if possible. Anyone know the last time the 1935 rule was mentioned?
