the case of jehovah's witness 'eunice spry' found guilty of mistreating her foster children has hit the airways all over the world with a vengeance.
i understand from another poster 'in the know' that there will be another two cases associated with this case that soon will hit the headlines again....... so, do you think that the watchtower society will come down on its elders harshly to prevent them from going to the police in the future with their suspicions, as happened with eunice spry?.
will there be more 'verbal' instruction to keep any accusations quiet because of the bad press that they must now be heartily sick of?.
Really it is 'stuffed' either way. If it just pays out then it loses its financial security, slowy but surely.
Yes Gill, there doesn't seem to be a way out of this one for the watchtower.
The fact that they are an organisation that relies so much on the financial contributions of their membership will most likely work against them as well. I know they have investments, as well as vast amounts of property, but the donations are still very important to them, and many have made, and continue to make real sacrifices to contribute to the world wide work and other wts causes.
I wonder if they will feel so generous if they get to know that their hard-earned cash is going on settling court judgements for cases that their leaders have tried to cover up?
thankyou so much for all the good wishes you have sent us in the last few days, trev has been printing up the emails, pms and threads, and bringing the cards to show me every day, and i get a lift every time i see him coming in with more of your lovely messages to read.. it's been a tough time for both of us, and it won't get any easier.
i am dreading chemo, to be honest, but i have to bear it, as i would anything that gives me hope.
but that's for monday, and i am going to enjoy myself as much as i can this weekend.
Hi Ian and Claire, and thankyou so much
Remember, Linda, you WILL get through it - so don't worry. We are all different and react differently. Some people actually sail through the treatments! I pray you are one of them.
Well, this time tomorrow I'll have had my first session. I hope I sail through it as well, but even if it is really hard, if it makes me well again any sufferring will be worthwhile.
Trev will keep us fully updated
He says he's going to start a "Linda update" thread tomorrow, and he will post on it every day.
and we're glad you enjoyed your Chinese and bottle of wine. The cuddling's the best part, though
You are so right. As much as I enjoyed the Chinese and the wine, the cuddling was my favourite part. I'm looking forward to some more of that later.
Thanyou again to everyone on this board. I really don't yey know how I'm going to be over the next few weeks and months, but knowing how much support I have from all of you wonderful people will help me get through it. I love you all so much.
Linda xxxx

And also, I could not help noticing a report on the board that the WTBTS had settled some outstanding child abuse allegations out of court. Are they more likely now to just settle quickly to keep any such accusations out of court and out of the headlines
Hi Gill,
I think that this is a possiblity. They hate anything that in any way sullies their "clean" reputation, so if they can keep these cases out of court, it doesn't get the batterring that, frankly, I feel it thoroughly deserves.
I read a post on here sometime ago from an active jw who had heard that the watchtower legal department see the current flood of child abuse cases as a "nightmare" for the society, so obviously they see the potential damage allowing such cases to be decided in court can do, even if they win some of them.
I remember when the Panorama report came on TV, we were told about it, but warned that it was full of lies. I have watched it since I left, and tend to agree it is full of lies - told by the jws themselves.
Personally, I feel any bad publicity the watchtower receives over this is only what they deserve. I remember how some of the elders in my kh used to gloat when other churches, mainly the Roman Catholics, were rocked by child abuse allegations, and arrogantly claimed it would never happen in "Jehovah's clean organisation". Well, the news for them is it is happening now, and I somehow doubt that they are gloating anymore.
Linda
this is your chance to give some advice to lurkers who may need the courage to push the envelope.. my advice; read raymond franz's books, crisis of conscience and in search of christian freedom.. raymond is not the frothing-at-the-mouth rabid apostate you have been lead to believe he is.
.
jeff .
My advice; Read Raymond Franz's books, Crisis of Conscience and In Search of Christian Freedom.
That would be my advice as well, Jeff.
Then they might see the jw memorial for what it really is - an anti-christian meeting.
I don't particularly believe in the bible nowadays, but it says, at John 3:16, that ..."For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son...."
Christ is therefore mediator for all mankind, not just a select few who think they are anointed. The jw memorial, with the majority there not partaking in the emblems, dishonours the sacrifice Jesus made.
i have just been reading randy's thread on the blood issue and gene smalley and found it fascinating, but fascinating not because of the life threatening doctrine of no blood transfusions for jehovah's witnesses but because of the fact that the name of a writer of watchtower publications is such obvious public knowledge.. my parents insist that no one ever knows who wrote any of the watchtower publications and yet on this site the names of many a writer is often mentioned without a second thought.. why are the rank and file jws so ignorant of who write the publications and why do they accept this state of affairs and right and good!?.
i have mentioned names of writers and my parents just shout that i'm believing apostate lies whereas everyone of this site knows who the writers are..
Being spirit-directed, all their writing is from jehovah of course, so men can't take credit for it, hence no authors name on the garbage books and magazines. At least that's what I was told when I asked who actually provided all the spiritual poison food.
Apart from that, if you were writing this crap, would really want your name on it as the author? I wouldn't.
who is merry?
i was born in 1965, the same year that malcolm x was assassinated.
my father had committed suicide a few months into my mother's pregnancy so we lived with her parents until she married again when i was about 18 months old.
Hi Merry,
I have wondered, seeing your avatar, if you had become a Muslim for a while. The city I live in has quite a large Muslim population, so I'm fairly used to seeing the headwear on many of my fellow citizens.
Although I haven't personally felt either the desire or the need to examine other religious beliefs since leaving the watchtower, I respect anyone who does, and I sincerely hope that what you have found in Islam gives you the peace and joy that you deserve.
love
Linda
i finally made it to the supreme stage of 5000 posts!
what fun that has been!
i always said i would leave at my 5000th so its been fun - i bid y'all adieu, bon voyage and good luck!.
Hey!!! You beat me to it Linda! How did that happen?
I think it's called addiction lol!
I hadn't even officially left the jws when I first posted here, though I wasn't attending meetings, and apart from Trev, this was the only place I knew with ex jws to talk to, so I came here a lot, and got to love you all too much to leave. I think I got to 5000 in just over a year.
