What 'crutches' have you employed to break the mind control?

once we determined that the 'truth' was not, there was much more to do in getting deprogrammed.

i have become aware that i have used a few mental games to 'unlock' from the watchtower mindmeld.

I love not being under the belief that I have all the answers. Embracing the unknown and abstract and being curious about anything and everything
not seeing the world thru eyes of black and white, right and wrongness
cussing , oh yes the cussing is *$#%@ing wonderful!!
every Sunday morning I'm sooo happy--especially during football season
hooking up with complete strangers to form a band and not worrying about them being "bad association"
not fearing people
not fearing God
not fearing life

losing jehovah was like losing a girlfriend that you loved.

you barely had time to flinch when you found out that she had been sleeping with all your friends and stealing your records to pawn off.

that you had just been another sucker on the vine.. when jehovah dumps you, you start looking at yourself longer and harder, and wondering what it was about him that you found in yourself, until all you see there in the reflection is just yourself, dancing with an imaginary hand and waistline.. when jehovah was gone, and the war was over, i realized that all the things that had made me "good", and "moral", and "hate what was bad", didn't mean anything to me anymore.

I gotta say I never thought of Jehovah that way before but I like it a lot TS. Great metaphor.

I guess I'll see it as every other broken heart that I've had--a device that evolves me to a stronger , wiser , more conscious being.

thanks for the responce i got about hereing my story.. i have never used a discussion forum before, so i just figured out that you responded to my message about hearing my story.. here goes.

but i worn you it's long.. i was raised around the religion, parants baptized when i was seven.

they were very strict, as were the elders in the congregation.

You've come a long way and it sounds like you have quite a bit ahead of you with your therapy and uncovering events from your past.

I hope the best for you. It can be painful peeling away the layers and really seeing just what this religion has done to you. Be brave and trust your own divinity. Your happiness and freedom has just begun!!!!

ANNIHILATIONISM VS ETERNAL TORMENT ??

a question aimed at those of you who have become christians , after your jw experiences.... how many still believe that the soul of those not saved will cease to exist at death.... personaly i believe we are multi dimensional beings - we are spirit/soul and body.... i would suggest that god can destroy body/soul and spirit and that the references to eternal torment are figurative and not literal.... a very well known christian writer " john stott", who is an evangelical christian shares these views.... .

i'm intersted in how others who still believe feel about this ?

I've begun to think about the idea that MOST of what we are as humans is invisible or spirit. Our thoughts, emotions, memories , ideas are what make us who we are. The physical body we inhabit seems to me to be a tool of sorts. So I'm leaning toward the idea of an immortal soul.

I've also talked with people recently who've had near death experiences and their stories are intriguing and the way they then approach life. It seems they have no fear of death and know that something better awaits.

Ultimately it's all unknown and a matter of faith and I'm sure there's good reason for that.
