  We should separate religious beliefs from this issue.

  This is really a human rights issue.

  There are human rights for BOTH the mother and the child.

  If this were a societal issue (as the Chinese have made it), the (enforced) abortion is certainly the lowest and most humanly insensative style of birth control which can be imagined.

  It should also be mentioned that the widespread view of the Catholic Church - the prevention of ANY form of modern birth control - is also at some blame for the number of abortions done in modern society.

  I think that all reasonable people, liberal or conservative alike (without the religious overtones) would say that the birth control pill (or other non-invasive means) is far to be preferred to the brutal practice of abortionists such as "Dr." Gosnell and his unfortunate and largely innocent victems - (both the mothers and the children).

  BTW - Hello again to Beks and Bizzy. I told you I would probably be shocking you from time to time.

  Although the Raymond Franz incident caused them some embarrassment, I don't think it really made much difference to the way they operated - neither did the UN involvement scandal either.

  You could make a very credible argument that after both of these incidents, the Watchtower society become much more hard-core in their choice of rules and enforcement.

  In the case above, were you to say what you do I’d ask that you demonstrate I’m immature with sufficient evidence.

  Would the plain posted evidence of manifest stubbornness (to the extreme) over the past few days be evidence?

  It is plenty of evidence for me.

  Sometimes maturity is just letting go of something when it has been over and dead for hours or even days.

  Watchtower may keep its shunning program but that does not mean AAWA can’t reduce the abuse inflicted by that program.

  I think the video is aimed at reducing the abuse of Watchtower’s shunning program, and not specifically at Watchtower ending it. If Watchtower ends it, fine. If not, then abuse from it can still be reduced.

  I hold little hope that the abuse resulting from shunnng can be "reduced" without shunning being ended.

  If you will recall, there was an attempt to moderate the effect of shunning back in the late 1970s - the notion was that DFd people could be reached out to, communicated with, and hopefully returned to the witnesses.

  It was rapidly and brutally reversed.

  Today's WTBTS and Governing Body are more hardcore than Nikita Kruschev's KGB - and show NO SIGNS of moderating any time in the future.

  This AAWA video may be of good purpose and good intent, but will not move the witness religion one iota.

  OUTLAW makes a point. A good one.

  What may be good to OUR sentimentality may be essentially worthless in reaching the dedicate regular witness or certainly the WTBTS itself.

  Many that don't like AAWA's recent handling spoke out in support of the video being good.

  I was very proud of our general posting population for that.

  It shows that we are not just knee-jerk reactionaries.

  However, it is also true that doing a little good after nearly a month of repeated bad will not balance the books for many.

  I personally will always be wary of the AAWA - and that is really too bad. But that is what they have done to their own reputation.

  I will give you my own personal standards, soontobe (a compromise, you must understand, I dislike all abortion but am practical):

  Abortion past four months of pregnancy should be against the law.

  Doing abortions past that term should be a medical malpractice and a lessor felony which forfeits the medical license.

  Doing a killing of a viable (post-birth) infant (which Gosnell obviously did) should be first degree murder and prosecuted as such.

  The pregnant mothers should be immune from charges unless they give birth to an infant and kill it voluntarily by action or neglect.

  I don't like the above very much, but dislike other standards far more.
